Industrial technology organisation in Sweden
The problem this seat exists to solve
The director will scrutinise the commercialisation of AI-enabled industrial products and services. The board needs a clear view of what is being sold, the evidence supporting claimed benefits and the obligations created when customers use an offering in consequential operating environments.
Industrial AI requires commercially accountable leadership
Applicants should have senior responsibility for enterprise or industrial technology commercial strategy, with practical exposure to AI-enabled products or data-driven services. They need to understand complex buying processes, product economics and the difference between a successful demonstration and a supportable commercial offering.
Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to question fashionable assumptions and an ability to communicate uncertainty clearly. Prior governance experience is valuable where it reflects collective judgement and appropriate reliance on expert evidence.
Evidence beyond the demonstration
Examine how proposed use cases translate into measurable customer value and whether that value persists outside controlled demonstrations. Review pricing, implementation effort, data dependencies and the cost of ongoing monitoring and support. Challenge revenue forecasts that assume rapid adoption without considering procurement, integration or customer accountability requirements.
Claims, safeguards and ownership
Ask how limitations are communicated in contracts and sales materials. Assess the process for approving consequential claims and determining when human review or operational safeguards are necessary. Ensure management has defined ownership for model performance, supplier changes and incidents affecting customer outcomes.
Investment choices and the director's boundary
The director will also challenge the allocation of investment between experimentation and scalable offerings. Board reporting should distinguish learning activity from commercially validated demand and should make visible the cost of discontinuing or changing an offering already embedded in customer operations.
This is a governance appointment for a leader with industrial technology commercial depth and sufficient AI literacy to challenge business assumptions. It is not a technical research role, and the director must know when independent specialist assurance is required.
The director will participate in wider board duties, oversee material strategic choices and follow unresolved commercial risks. Appointment-specific eligibility, independence and conflicts will apply. Management retains product, sales and operational authority. Success is a board that can distinguish credible commercial opportunity from unsupported claims and approve growth with a realistic account of the responsibilities the product creates.

- Appointment
- Board appointment
- Compensation
- SEK 550,000–900,000 per year (indicative annual board fee)
- Time commitment in this market
- Typically 8–11 board meetings a year plus committees and a strategy session; Swedish boards meet more often than the European average and read more.
Before you apply — Sweden
No nationality test applies to you. The board as a whole must keep half its members EEA-resident unless Bolagsverket has granted an exemption — a company-level test that a listed issuer normally satisfies well before it reaches an outside candidate.
- Residency test
- At least half the board resident within the EEA, subject to exemption by Bolagsverket. Non-EEA residents are common on Swedish boards where that half is satisfied.
- Nationality test
- None.
- Work authorisation
- A non-executive director attending board meetings requires no work permit. Executive roles for non-EU/EEA nationals require a work permit through Migrationsverket.
- Tenure limit once appointed
- No fixed cap. Because directors are elected annually and the nomination committee is reconstituted from the current largest shareholders each year, refresh is driven by ownership change rather than by a tenure clock.
