The problem this seat exists to solve
The advisor will assess proposed or existing cloud arrangements through the lens of operating control, data use and exit capability. The engagement should help leadership understand which responsibilities remain with the enterprise, which are contracted to providers and which depend on technical design. It is intended to support investment and sourcing decisions with a realistic view of the resulting obligations.
Questions to investigate
Which services are critical, and what would happen if access were interrupted? Can the organisation recover its information in a usable form? Who controls privileged access, encryption arrangements and the approval of material changes? Are monitoring and incident responsibilities clear across several providers? The advisor will test these questions against architecture, contracts and operating practice.
Assess the treatment of sensitive data, cross-border dependencies and local service requirements with appropriately qualified specialists. Avoid assuming that the physical location of data alone settles legal, security or operational concerns. Review the impact of subcontracting and shared administrative services where they create dependencies not obvious in the headline contract.
Options rather than a universal architecture
Develop recommendations that compare resilience, cost, portability and management complexity. Multi-provider designs may reduce one concentration while creating additional integration and skills requirements. Exit planning should identify practical transition steps and costs, not simply a contractual right to terminate.
The advisor's output
Provide a decision paper, a prioritised control review and a testable plan for critical recovery or exit assumptions. Identify evidence management should obtain before further commitment and the residual risks requiring explicit acceptance. The advisor does not award contracts, approve architecture or certify compliance.
Who should apply
Candidates need experience in cloud operating models, technology risk and supplier governance. They should demonstrate a case where contractual assurances and technical reality diverged, and how that affected the decision. Strong candidates can explain trade-offs to executives while working credibly with architects, procurement and legal specialists.
Success means leadership can articulate its critical dependencies and the conditions under which the chosen arrangement remains acceptable. The engagement should leave practical ownership and a means of validating controls, rather than a broad assertion that a particular deployment model is inherently secure.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement
No office of director, and no appointment formalities.
An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Qatar. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.
- On this brief
- Independence
- Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
