The problem this seat exists to solve
The director will lead the coordination needed to turn an authorised discharge decision into a safe, practical transition from hospital. The assignment addresses delays and fragmented responsibilities involving information, transport, medicines, follow-up and the receiving care environment. Clinical decisions on whether and when a patient is ready for discharge remain with authorised practitioners.
Map the work that happens after the decision
Examine the steps between anticipated discharge and actual departure, including how early each can be prepared. Identify patients whose transition requires coordination beyond the hospital and establish who owns that work. Review how families or carers receive information and where uncertainty leads to repeated calls, delayed collection or incomplete follow-up arrangements.
Lead the coordination model
Agree daily operating responsibilities with ward, pharmacy, therapy, administrative and community-service colleagues. Create escalation for barriers that cannot be resolved by the ward alone. Where external capacity is limited, make it visible to service leaders and avoid describing an unavailable option as a completed plan.
Implement a practical approach to anticipated discharge information, while allowing clinical plans to change. Staff should understand how to update the operating plan when a patient's needs differ from earlier assumptions. The director must prevent pressure for bed availability from bypassing the clinical and practical checks required for an appropriate transition.
What candidates must demonstrate
Relevant experience includes hospital operations, care transitions or multi-agency service coordination, with accountability for implemented improvement. Candidates need strong facilitation and the ability to work with competing priorities under pressure. Clinical qualifications may be relevant but are not assumed to confer local practice rights; any clinical duties require appropriate authorisation.
Measure the transition, not the departure alone
Review delays alongside patient understanding, completeness of handover and indicators of avoidable return or failure of follow-up. The engagement should leave a functioning coordination process, clear ownership and a realistic account of external dependencies. The director controls operational implementation within delegation, while clinical approval and material resource decisions stay with designated owners. Handover must explain unresolved barriers and the action needed beyond the hospital to address them.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in the Philippines usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in the Philippines
- A non-resident director attending board meetings does not require a work permit. Executive and resident roles require an Alien Employment Permit and the corresponding visa.
