Transport and operational technology organisation in Netherlands
The problem this seat exists to solve
Lead the integration of technology supporting a transport and logistics environment where multiple operators must exchange reliable information without surrendering their individual safety responsibilities. The assignment concerns the seams between systems: a schedule change that fails to reach a downstream team, a duplicated asset record, or an interface whose failure is visible only after service has deteriorated.
One operating picture across connected services
Map the operational consequences of these seams before approving an integration architecture. Establish which information must arrive in real time, which can be reconciled later and which must remain authoritative within a single operational domain. Translate these distinctions into acceptance criteria that operating teams can actually test.
Authority at the integration boundary
Own the executive technology plan, sequencing and delivery commitments within delegated authority. Appoint accountable interface owners and resolve competing requirements through explicit service priorities. Operations retains control of safe working arrangements; a technology milestone does not authorise a service cutover. Bring unresolved disagreements about readiness to the executive sponsor with consequences and practicable alternatives.
Supplier evidence and incident ownership
The work includes reviewing middleware dependencies, retiring unnecessary interfaces, agreeing data-quality thresholds and arranging support across organisational boundaries. Require suppliers to demonstrate failure behaviour as well as successful transactions. Establish a common incident chronology so that technical teams do not spend the recovery window arguing over which system first reported the problem.
Experience handling uncertain dependencies
Candidates should have led integration in continuously operating infrastructure, transport or comparably demanding environments. Demonstrate responsibility for live service acceptance, complex supplier coordination and decisions where integration benefits had to be weighed against disruption risk. Familiarity with enterprise architecture alone is insufficient without evidence of operating accountability.
Explain how you have dealt with incomplete documentation, conflicting system records and dependencies outside your direct control. Strong candidates can make technical uncertainty intelligible to operating leaders without presenting a proposed architecture as an assured outcome.
A durable handover
Leave an agreed integration map, tested recovery arrangements and named owners for unresolved dependencies. The successor should inherit a prioritised backlog grounded in service consequences, together with evidence showing which interfaces are dependable and which still require compensating controls. Progress will be assessed through reduced reconciliation work, clearer incident ownership and operationally accepted integration releases.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in the Netherlands usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in the Netherlands
- A non-executive or supervisory director attending meetings does not require a residence permit. Executive roles for non-EU nationals require a permit, commonly under the highly skilled migrant scheme.
