The problem this seat exists to solve
The director will assume executive responsibility for repairing a persistent mismatch between commercial commitments and operating capability. The assignment requires a shared view of profitable, deliverable business and implementation of the decisions needed to achieve it. It is not a sales-coaching or process-mapping engagement.
Commercial commitments tested against delivery economics
Review representative customer commitments from qualification through delivery and collection. Identify where scope, resource assumptions, timing or risk were left unresolved. Compare the commercial case with the work actually required and the costs created by exceptions.
Establish where the problem originates. Weak pricing, unclear offers, inadequate capacity and poor handoffs require different responses. The director must avoid allowing either commercial or operating teams to define the other as the sole cause without evidence.
General-management experience at the commercial interface
Applicants should have senior general-management or operating experience where commercial choices materially shaped delivery economics. They must explain a case where they restored cooperation without weakening necessary challenge. Direct accountability for customer outcomes and financial performance is essential.
Implement a joint discipline that supports future work
Lead agreed changes to qualification, commitment approval and delivery acceptance. Clarify who can make exceptions and how their consequences are reflected in forecasts. Improve feedback from completed work into future proposals and planning.
Manage the authorised cross-functional team and resolve disputes within delegation. Contract changes, customer concessions and material resource commitments remain subject to the proper approval. The director should ensure those decisions are supported by reliable facts and completed promptly.
The handover should leave commercial and delivery leaders using compatible assumptions and understanding the limits of their authority. Success means fewer avoidable disputes, more reliable margins and customer commitments the organisation can fulfil. Measures must include service quality and repeat business, not only internal approval speed.
The director must also address incentives or management routines that would recreate the mismatch after the assignment. The durable outcome is a business able to accept worthwhile opportunities quickly and decline or reshape unsuitable work deliberately, with clear reasons that both commercial and operating teams can defend.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in the Netherlands usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in the Netherlands
- A non-executive or supervisory director attending meetings does not require a residence permit. Executive roles for non-EU nationals require a permit, commonly under the highly skilled migrant scheme.
