The problem this seat exists to solve
The director will take responsibility for resolving a defined set of cross-functional decisions that are preventing operational progress. The role requires a formal executive delegation and direct accountability for implementation. It is not a facilitation-only assignment in which recommendations can be returned indefinitely to the same unresolved discussions.
Authority and leadership to end a decision deadlock
Applicants should demonstrate senior operating or transformation leadership involving contested authority and competing business priorities. They must explain a decision they brought to resolution, the interests they had to reconcile and how implementation was sustained. The ability to distinguish a genuine strategic disagreement from an avoidable information gap is essential.
Reconstruct the choice and its implementation conditions
Establish the choice required, the consequences of delay and the authority needed to decide. Review previous proposals to identify missing evidence, incompatible constraints or conditions that have changed. Separate issues that can be resolved within the mandate from those requiring a governing-body decision.
Develop practical options with explicit trade-offs. Ensure affected leaders understand what each option requires of them and what work or resources must move. Where disagreement remains, use the authorised decision route rather than seeking indefinite consensus. Record the rationale so that the same debate is not reopened without new evidence.
The assignment is completed through operating action
Lead implementation planning, confirm resources and resolve dependencies. Monitor whether teams act on the decision or preserve the previous arrangement informally. Address contradictions in objectives, budgets or procedures that would make compliance unrealistic.
The director may exercise only the authority explicitly delegated. Employment, contractual and reserved strategic matters remain with the appropriate owners. The assignment must expose gaps in authority early rather than compensate for them through personal influence.
The organisation should leave the engagement with completed decisions, operating ownership and a clearer route for future cross-functional issues. Success is not the number of meetings concluded. It is the removal of delays that materially affect service, cost or growth, with evidence that the resulting choices are being carried out. The handover should make clear which matters remain uncertain and what new information would justify revisiting a settled decision.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in the Netherlands usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in the Netherlands
- A non-executive or supervisory director attending meetings does not require a residence permit. Executive roles for non-EU nationals require a permit, commonly under the highly skilled migrant scheme.
