The problem this seat exists to solve
This director will implement an integration programme across European operations while preserving customer continuity and necessary local expertise. The remit covers management information, service coordination and the practical interfaces between country or business-unit teams. It requires deciding where common methods improve performance and where local differences are commercially or operationally justified.
Integration work to lead
Establish a reliable view of each operation's service commitments, resources and operating economics. Identify dependencies that were not visible in high-level plans, including specialist capacity, shared clients and incompatible data definitions. Convert the agreed integration rationale into a sequence of executable decisions with accountable owners.
Lead implementation of selected common processes and cross-border management routines. Resolve disputes over service ownership, internal charging and access to expertise. Work with finance and technology leaders to reconcile information before management begins comparing performance on an apparently common basis. Avoid forcing standardisation where the underlying business models differ materially.
The director will manage the authorised programme team and budget. Changes to legal entities, employment arrangements, tax positions or reserved governance matters require qualified advice and the relevant approval. The role is accountable for coordinating these dependencies and making their operating consequences visible.
Relationships across the new boundaries
Build working relationships among leaders who may have different commercial histories and decision styles. Create practical opportunities for joint delivery rather than relying on announcements about collaboration. Protect critical knowledge and clarify how local managers can raise exceptions without appearing to resist the entire programme.
What qualifies an integration leader
Qualified applicants have implemented multi-country integration or operating change with direct delivery accountability. They should present an example where local variation was retained deliberately and another where standardisation was necessary despite resistance. Experience reconciling commercial objectives with people, systems and control constraints is important.
The handover should contain functioning cross-border processes, reliable management information and clear ownership of remaining differences. Success means the businesses can collaborate and allocate resources without repeated intervention from the integration team. Benefits must be supported by operating evidence, with transition costs and any deterioration in client service reported alongside the gains.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in the Netherlands usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in the Netherlands
- A non-executive or supervisory director attending meetings does not require a residence permit. Executive roles for non-EU nationals require a permit, commonly under the highly skilled migrant scheme.
