Agricultural commodities organisation in Netherlands
The problem this seat exists to solve
The interim director will lead the movement of agricultural products from contracted supply through storage, transport and delivery. The assignment is to create a dependable execution plan that recognises quality requirements, capacity constraints and the cost of delay. It calls for operational accountability across functions that can otherwise optimise their own activity while the overall shipment remains at risk.
Operating experience for physical execution
Candidates require senior physical commodity, agricultural logistics or comparable bulk supply-chain experience. They should have managed disruption, worked with quality constraints and understood the interaction between operational events and contractual commitments. Strong candidates can demonstrate decisions that protected delivery while making the cost and risk of alternatives explicit.
Establish and run a common delivery plan
Establish a current view of committed volumes, stock locations, transport bookings and delivery windows. Identify where the plan depends on unconfirmed capacity, incomplete documentation or assumptions about product readiness. Prioritise exceptions according to customer impact, quality exposure and financial consequence, rather than treating every late update as equally urgent.
Coordinate commercial, logistics, quality and finance teams around a common execution schedule. Within delegated authority, resolve allocation and routing choices, assign owners to blocked shipments and escalate contractual or financial decisions that exceed the remit. Ensure changes to a delivery plan are reflected in the information used by all affected teams.
Investigate costs at their source
Review the practical causes of demurrage, avoidable handling and inventory ageing. Some delays originate in commercial commitments or financing conditions rather than transport performance, and the director must make those causes visible. Establish an escalation process that brings the right decision-maker into the issue before costs accumulate without a clear owner.
Handover and delegated authority
The engagement should leave a reliable execution rhythm, clear ownership of exceptions and a measurable reduction in preventable disruption. Provide a handover covering key dependencies, unresolved claims and the improvement backlog. The director does not have authority to change trading strategy or enter material commitments outside the agreed delegation. Commercial and specialist legal decisions remain with their designated owners, while the interim director is accountable for the operational plan and the timely escalation of risks to its execution.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in the Netherlands usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in the Netherlands
- A non-executive or supervisory director attending meetings does not require a residence permit. Executive roles for non-EU nationals require a permit, commonly under the highly skilled migrant scheme.
