Industrial technology organisation in Netherlands
The problem this seat exists to solve
This board seat requires a commercial leader who can assess entry into new industrial technology markets with disciplined attention to customer access, local delivery requirements and the economics of establishment. The director will challenge whether the proposed route to market is credible, financeable and consistent with the enterprise's ability to support customers.
The market-entry decision and director remit
The remit is strategic oversight. The director will not serve as an informal sales agent or be appointed on the expectation of supplying a personal customer list. The value of the seat lies in judgement about market choices and the governance of commitments made to pursue them.
The appointment includes participation in collective board responsibilities and follow-up on approved strategic conditions. Conflicts involving partners, competitors or advisory clients must be disclosed. Eligibility and independence will be assessed for the entity. Success means that expansion decisions have a clear evidential basis and that management receives timely challenge before sunk costs and commercial promises make reconsideration difficult.
Evidence of access and repeatable demand
Examine the evidence behind target segments, buying authority, sales cycles and competitive differentiation. Test whether reference customers are representative and whether a successful pilot can be repeated commercially. Assess the capability of proposed partners and the implications of relying on them for implementation, service or customer access.
Applicants need senior experience selling complex industrial or enterprise technology across markets, with direct responsibility for commercial outcomes. Evidence of choosing not to enter a market, changing a partner model or correcting an expansion assumption will be particularly valuable. Strong understanding of product economics and enterprise procurement is essential.
When to expand, pause or stop
Challenge plans for local teams, product adaptation and support against realistic revenue timing. Require management to state the conditions under which investment should increase, pause or stop. Consider how the market entry affects existing customers and product priorities, including the risk that bespoke requirements consume disproportionate engineering capacity.
The director should ensure that progress reporting captures customer adoption, margin quality and delivery readiness, rather than counting meetings or unsigned opportunities as evidence of traction.
Independent judgement required
Candidates must be able to move from commercial advocacy to balanced board judgement and to work constructively with directors whose expertise lies elsewhere.
