Partner-sourced

The problem this seat exists to solve
A development-oriented lender wants to expand its economic contribution while preserving credit discipline and financial sustainability. The director will challenge the strategy, product economics and evidence used to assess whether lending is reaching the intended businesses.
Strategic lens
You will review the balance among development objectives, portfolio quality, funding cost and operating capacity. You will challenge product and partnership proposals for additionality, customer need and commercial viability.
Programme and distribution oversight
- Scrutinise concentration in sectors, intermediaries and programmes that could distort the risk profile.
- Review evidence of borrower outcomes without allowing activity volumes to substitute for impact.
- Support board evaluation of digital distribution and partnerships that improve access while retaining underwriting discipline.
Evidence of useful board contribution
1. First quarter: establish a clear view of strategic objectives, portfolio exposures and outcome measures.
2. Within six months: review one priority lending programme or distribution partnership.
3. Within twelve months: assess programme performance using both financial sustainability and agreed borrower outcome measures.
Banking experience sought
The role requires banking governance experience, understanding of lending economics and ability to balance institutional purpose with prudent risk management.
Additional useful experience includes development banking, SME lending, public-private funding partnerships or programme evaluation experience.
This is a nonexecutive appointment. The director contributes through the chair to collective board decisions and oversight; management retains responsibility for execution.
Appointment horizon
An initial three-year appointment is envisaged, with approximately eighteen to twenty-four days annually for meetings, preparation and committee work. Start date, remuneration, travel and on-site attendance will be agreed for the appointment.
