Luxury hospitality organisation in Italy
The problem this seat exists to solve
Applicants should have senior hospitality leadership experience across growth and operations. They must demonstrate a case where they changed an expansion sequence or declined an opportunity because execution capacity was inadequate. Strong candidates can discuss the organisational investment that made later growth viable.
Evaluate the organisation behind the expansion plan
The advisor will assess whether a hospitality business has the management capacity and operating capabilities required for planned growth. The engagement concerns the sequence of openings, new services or additional properties and the resources needed to execute them. It should help leadership choose a pace that preserves commercial credibility and service quality.
Test the hidden assumptions
Examine how the plan relies on existing leaders, specialist teams and shared services. Identify individuals expected to support several initiatives while maintaining current operations. Review the readiness of recruitment, training, procurement, systems and quality management to absorb additional complexity.
Compare the operating requirements of each growth initiative rather than treating all units as equivalent. A new concept or market may need substantially more attention than a familiar format. Assess whether lessons from previous openings have become repeatable capability or remain personal knowledge.
Advice on sequencing
Develop options for pacing, prioritising or narrowing the programme. Explain the commercial cost of delay alongside the risk of expanding faster than the organisation can support. Recommend readiness gates based on demonstrated capability and specific management decisions.
The advisor should identify the leadership roles and support arrangements needed before commitments become difficult to reverse. The engagement does not include appointing executives, negotiating development agreements or directing openings. Management and the governing body retain those decisions, supported by appropriate specialist advice.
The next commitment the business can support
Deliver a realistic growth-capacity assessment, prioritised capability actions and a decision sequence. Success means the business can explain not only where it wants to grow but how it will maintain the experience that justifies growth. The recommendation should expose the opportunity cost of stretching leaders too thin and make clear which capabilities must become institutional before further expansion. It should leave a plan that ordinary management can monitor, with early signals that the pace needs adjustment rather than waiting for service deterioration to reveal the constraint.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement
No office of director, and no appointment formalities.
An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Italy. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.
- On this brief
- Independence
- Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
