The problem this seat exists to solve

The advisor will examine how a hospitality business can manage meaningful fluctuations in demand while preserving its service proposition and financial resilience. The engagement concerns commercial pacing, operating flexibility and the decisions needed before demand changes. It should help leadership avoid responses that protect one period's results by weakening the next.

The experience required

Candidates should have led hospitality operations through variable demand and can demonstrate sound commercial and resource decisions. Applications should explain a period when apparent cost savings created a later service or revenue problem, and what was learned. The ability to distinguish genuine flexibility from deferred cost is important.

Read the pattern carefully

Analyse demand by segment, booking window and service use. Distinguish predictable seasonality from volatility caused by commercial choices or changing customer behaviour. Examine the fixed and variable costs supporting the offer and the consequences of opening, reducing or suspending particular services.

Assess workforce, procurement and maintenance arrangements alongside revenue plans. Identify where reduced activity provides an opportunity for renewal or development and where it creates retention or continuity risks. Consider the effect of discounted demand on positioning and the cost of serving it.

Management options

Develop operating scenarios with explicit service levels, resource needs and commercial assumptions. Advise on triggers for adjusting capacity and on the commitments that should remain stable. Recommend how managers can use leading indicators without reacting excessively to short-term booking movements.

Proposals must account for the practical time needed to change staffing, supplier orders and facility availability. The advisor will not make employment decisions, change live rates or authorise closures. Applicable contractual and employment requirements must be considered by authorised management and qualified advisers.

Decisions before demand changes

The final output should provide a realistic operating calendar, scenario logic and decision triggers. Success means leadership can respond to changing demand without improvising every action or repeatedly rebuilding service capability. The recommendation should protect the elements of the experience that define the proposition while making the cost of maintaining them transparent, allowing the business to choose deliberately where flexibility is valuable and where consistency matters more.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement

No office of director, and no appointment formalities.

An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Italy. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.

On this brief
Independence
Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
