The problem this seat exists to solve
The advisor will evaluate whether a hospitality operation has the workforce design and management routines needed to deliver its intended experience. The engagement focuses on the relationship between demand, work content, scheduling and capability. It should identify practical improvements without reducing service design to a single labour-cost ratio.
Understand how work arrives
Review demand patterns across rooms, dining, guest services and supporting functions. Examine how arrival peaks, group activity, special requests and facility use affect workload. Identify work generated by avoidable process failures or unclear handoffs. Compare staffing assumptions with observation of the tasks employees actually perform.
Assess the skills needed at different times and the consequences of dependence on a few experienced individuals. Cross-training may improve flexibility, but should not imply that every specialist task is interchangeable. Consider the time required for supervision, learning and quality checks as part of the operating model.
Applicants should demonstrate substantial hospitality operations experience with direct responsibility for workforce planning and service standards. They must explain a case where apparent labour efficiency concealed deteriorating service or unsustainable workload. Strong analytical ability should be grounded in practical understanding of frontline work.
Advice for management decisions
Recommend changes to scheduling, role boundaries, workflow or service design, with their commercial and guest consequences. Distinguish improvements that remove unnecessary effort from those that merely transfer work. Propose tests that evaluate service quality, employee strain and cost together.
The advisor will not decide employment terms, direct employees or implement workforce reductions. Management retains authority and must follow applicable consultation and employment processes. Recommendations should identify where specialist advice or further evidence is necessary before action.
Capacity management after the review
The final output should give leadership a realistic view of the capacity required for the promise it intends to make. Success means better deployment, clearer responsibilities and fewer service failures caused by predictable workload mismatches. The advice should remain useful through normal fluctuations in demand and staff availability, enabling managers to adjust intelligently rather than rely on recurring overtime, exceptional effort or informal workarounds to keep the guest experience intact.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement
No office of director, and no appointment formalities.
An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Italy. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.
- On this brief
- Independence
- Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
