Luxury hospitality organisation in Italy

The problem this seat exists to solve

Candidates should have substantial hospitality commercial or revenue leadership experience with a grounded understanding of operations. They must explain a case where the most visible revenue opportunity was not the most valuable business. Strong candidates can reconcile channel analysis with guest experience and the property's long-term positioning.

Look beyond occupancy

This engagement will assess how a luxury hospitality business acquires demand and whether its channel mix supports profitable, durable customer relationships. The advisor must examine the full economics of distribution, including acquisition cost, terms, cancellations and the operating consequences of different guest segments. The objective is a commercial recommendation that protects positioning while improving the quality of demand.

Follow the booking to its outcome

Review bookings by channel, lead time, rate, cancellation behaviour and ancillary contribution. Examine the difference between headline room revenue and the value retained after commissions, discounts and service requirements. Identify where apparent growth relies on conditions that may not be repeatable.

Assess the relationship between direct demand, intermediaries, group business and other relevant channels. Determine whether commercial teams have enough information to make trade-offs and whether performance measures encourage volume at the expense of contribution or guest fit. Consider how rate and availability decisions affect customer expectations.

The advice required

Recommend a distribution approach with clear roles for each channel and a practical method for reviewing performance. Develop options for demand periods with different constraints, avoiding a single policy that ignores seasonality or booking patterns. Propose tests to evaluate changes before wider implementation.

The advisor may support analytical review and commercial planning but will not set live rates, negotiate contracts or own revenue targets. Management retains those decisions. Any contractual or data-use implications must receive appropriate specialist review.

Which demand deserves priority

The final output should enable leaders to explain which demand they want, what they will pay to acquire it and when they should decline or redirect business. Success means clearer channel economics and more deliberate commercial choices. The recommendation must be usable through changing trading conditions, rather than depend on an external advisor repeatedly interpreting ordinary booking data.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement

No office of director, and no appointment formalities.

An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Italy. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.

On this brief
Independence
Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
