The problem this seat exists to solve
Candidates require engineering leadership experience with production software and practical responsibility for AI-enabled delivery. They should understand evaluation limitations, data dependencies and the difference between a persuasive demonstration and a dependable service. Experience coordinating product, engineering and risk specialists is essential; purely research or sales leadership is insufficient for this delivery mandate.
Turn an emerging service into a supportable operation
The director will lead engineering delivery for AI-enabled services moving from experimentation into controlled customer use. The remit is to establish the technical and operational discipline required for reliable deployment, including evaluation, data handling, support and commercial handover. The role is accountable for delivery readiness, not for promoting adoption regardless of evidence.
Review proposed use cases against user needs, available data and the consequences of incorrect output. Establish criteria for proceeding, restricting scope or stopping development. Work with product, security and relevant specialists to identify where human review, access controls or limits on automated action are necessary. Assumptions about model capability must be tested in the intended workflow.
Build the delivery machinery
Lead the creation of repeatable evaluation and release processes. Ensure changes to models, prompts, retrieval sources or integrations can be traced and assessed before deployment. Define service ownership, incident escalation and rollback arrangements, including how customers are supported when an output is misleading or a dependency becomes unavailable.
Cost and commercial readiness
Make the cost of operating the service visible. Capacity planning should consider usage variability, external service dependencies, evaluation effort and support demand. Work with commercial leaders so that commitments about performance, confidentiality and availability are consistent with what engineering can evidence and sustain.
Within agreed authority, the director will set technical delivery priorities, allocate engineering capacity and determine readiness recommendations. Material commercial, legal or investment decisions remain with designated executives. The engagement should conclude with operational services, documented constraints, trained permanent owners and an explicit backlog of unresolved issues. Success includes knowing when a use case should remain limited or be withdrawn because the evidence does not support the intended level of reliance.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in France usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in France
- A non-executive director attending board meetings requires no work authorisation. An executive seat — directeur général or a directoire seat — held by a non-EU national raises residence-permit questions and should be checked before acceptance.
