The problem this seat exists to solve
The director will help the board assess the quality of revenue across travel and hospitality activities. The remit connects pricing, distribution, customer mix and service obligations to realised contribution and cash. It requires financial depth and commercial understanding, with a focus on how management chooses the business it wants to win.
Scrutinise the channels and terms
Review the economics of direct and intermediary channels, including commissions, discounts, cancellation terms and payment timing. Ask whether growth reporting separates price, volume and mix sufficiently for directors to understand what is changing. Examine the cost of serving particular segments without assuming that allocated accounting margin always reflects avoidable economic cost.
Challenge the governance of exceptional terms and promotions. Management should explain the intended outcome, the cost of participation and how effectiveness will be measured. Repeated discounting to reach a volume target may weaken future pricing even if the immediate period looks stronger.
Follow through after the decision
Require post-action analysis that connects commercial choices with actual contribution, cash and service demand. A successful promotion may create operational pressure that erodes its apparent benefit; an apparently lower-margin segment may support useful capacity utilisation. The director should encourage nuanced evaluation rather than a single metric applied without context.
Profile and boundaries
Candidates need senior finance, commercial-finance or board experience in hospitality, travel or related service businesses. They should be able to challenge analytical definitions and discuss practical customer behaviour. Evidence of making better pricing or channel decisions through finance insight is particularly relevant.
This is an independent board seat. The director does not set daily prices, approve individual offers or manage distribution relationships. Executives retain those responsibilities. Committee participation will be defined as part of the appointment.
The expected contribution is a clearer account of revenue quality and a more disciplined basis for commercial investment. Candidates must disclose interests in distribution partners, customers and advisers. They should demonstrate the ability to recognise both the value of commercial flexibility and the point at which repeated exceptions undermine the financial model the board believes it has approved.

Before you apply — France
No nationality or residency test applies to a director of a French société anonyme. The constraint on a French board is its composition arithmetic, not your passport.
- Residency test
- None.
- Nationality test
- None.
- Work authorisation
- A non-executive director attending board meetings requires no work authorisation. An executive seat — directeur général or a directoire seat — held by a non-EU national raises residence-permit questions and should be checked before acceptance.
- Tenure limit once appointed
- Twelve years. Under the AFEP-MEDEF Code a director loses independent status on passing twelve years' service, and the board must state the position each year.
