Industrial technology organisation in France
The problem this seat exists to solve
The director will scrutinise the economics and risk of industrial software commercial models. The remit encompasses pricing architecture, contractual commitments and the quality of reported growth, especially where recurring revenue is accompanied by implementation, support or performance obligations that are not obvious from headline sales figures.
What pricing expertise contributes to the board
Candidates must demonstrate senior responsibility for enterprise or industrial technology commercial strategy, including pricing and complex contracts. Experience working with finance, product and delivery teams is essential. Applicants should explain a situation in which they improved contract quality or corrected incentives that were producing commercially weak growth.
Strong financial literacy, independence and an ability to challenge persuasive forecasts are required. Prior board experience is valuable where it demonstrates collective judgement rather than operational intervention.
Examine the contract before celebrating revenue
Assess whether pricing aligns with customer value, cost to serve and the ability to scale delivery. Challenge discount structures that bring forward revenue at the expense of renewal economics or create commitments inconsistent with product capability. Examine the difference between standard product revenue and services-heavy custom work.
Review the board's visibility of material contract exceptions, liability exposure, customer concentration and commitments to future functionality. Ask how sales incentives influence deal quality and whether approval controls operate before promises are made. Ensure that revenue growth is considered alongside implementation performance, customer adoption, retention and support burden.
Commercial model changes and board authority
The director should help the board understand transitions between licensing, subscription and outcome-linked models without assuming that one commercial structure is always superior. Each model needs a credible account of cash timing, risk allocation and customer behaviour.
This is a board appointment for a commercial leader able to examine enterprise technology from the customer's purchasing decision through to long-term delivery. The director will contribute to strategy and enterprise oversight while leaving individual transactions and account management with executives.
The seat will support better oversight of the commercial model, disciplined review of material changes and transparent follow-up on customer outcomes. Conflicts arising from advisory or competitor relationships must be disclosed. Appointment-specific eligibility will apply. Success is sustainable revenue with understood obligations, supported by evidence that the organisation can deliver what it sells. The director has no authority to negotiate or approve individual customer terms outside collective governance.

No nationality or residency test applies to a director of a French société anonyme. The constraint on a French board is its composition arithmetic, not your passport.

- None.
- Nationality test
- None.
- Work authorisation
- A non-executive director attending board meetings requires no work authorisation. An executive seat — directeur général or a directoire seat — held by a non-EU national raises residence-permit questions and should be checked before acceptance.
- Tenure limit once appointed
- Twelve years. Under the AFEP-MEDEF Code a director loses independent status on passing twelve years' service, and the board must state the position each year.
