The problem this seat exists to solve
The adviser will assess the product strategy for a hardware-enabled security capability. The assignment is to connect technical differentiation with a credible customer problem, deployment model and commercial proposition. It should help leadership decide where to focus, what evidence to build and which opportunities require capabilities the business does not yet possess.
Begin with the customer's threat and operating constraints
Examine adoption, not only protection
Review intended use cases, integration requirements and the consequences of deploying the product within existing systems. Identify who must approve adoption, what testing they require and how the product affects performance, support and lifecycle management. A technically strong control may face substantial barriers if its operating burden is not understood.
Assess the evidence supporting security claims with appropriate technical specialists. Distinguish demonstrated capability from hypotheses and assumptions about the customer's environment. The adviser must not present marketing language as independent validation or imply that one control removes all relevant exposure.
Shape the commercial choices
Develop options for target segments, product boundaries and partnership needs. Examine pricing and delivery economics alongside the cost of qualification, technical support and updates. Recommend what should be learned through pilots and what would justify a broader launch.
Relevant experience
Candidates need substantial product, engineering or commercialisation experience in hardware security, embedded systems or a closely related deep-technology field. They should understand technical assurance and customer buying processes, and be able to translate between specialist and executive audiences. Evidence of narrowing a product proposition to improve adoption is especially useful.
Deliver a strategy assessment, prioritised evidence plan and recommended sequence of commercial decisions. Include the assumptions that would change the recommendation. This is an advisory mandate without director office or authority over product, pricing or customer commitments. Management retains those decisions.
The engagement should leave a more precise account of whom the product serves, why they would adopt it and what the organisation must prove before making stronger claims. Conflicts involving competing products, investors or potential partners must be disclosed so that recommendations can be assessed with full context.

Before you apply — an advisory engagement
No office of director, and no appointment formalities.
An advisory engagement creates no directorship in Germany. There is no registry filing, no regulator pre-approval, no residency arithmetic and no statutory director liability — which is why it is so often the right first step into a market you do not yet know.
- On this brief
- Independence
- Where the engagement specifies independence from any search that follows, that is a requirement of the engagement rather than a courtesy — an adviser to a board is not a candidate for it.
