Transport and operational technology organisation in Germany
The problem this seat exists to solve
The role requires leadership of technology in a physical operating environment, with practical understanding of control-system dependencies and round-the-clock support. Candidates should demonstrate how they have balanced throughput, maintainability and operational risk when those priorities conflicted.
Operational credibility required
Experience commissioning warehouse, terminal, distribution or comparable industrial systems is relevant. The decisive evidence is an ability to work with operators and engineers on the meaning of a system signal, not simply to manage an application implementation. Explain a situation in which you retained a manual safeguard longer than planned and how you subsequently justified its removal.
Restore confidence in the control room
This appointment leads technology supporting the movement, storage and release of goods across interconnected logistics operations. The central responsibility is to make the control environment trustworthy: operators must understand whether an instruction has been received, whether an asset is available and when a system indication requires physical verification.
Start by observing operating shifts and tracing selected movements from instruction to completion. Identify where manual workarounds protect the service and where they conceal a broken control. Avoid removing local checks merely because a replacement dashboard appears to provide equivalent information.
Change the controls without losing the service
Set the remediation sequence for control applications, event feeds, terminal devices and supporting infrastructure. Establish change windows against actual operating patterns, including peaks, maintenance activity and reduced staffing. Agree fallback capacity with operational managers before changing a system that directs physical work.
Bring engineering, technology support and logistics planning into a shared defect review. Separate faulty source data from presentation defects and equipment faults so that investment addresses the correct cause. For recurring incidents, require a reproducible explanation, an interim operating precaution and an owner for permanent resolution. Supplier performance should be judged against restoration and prevention evidence rather than the number of tickets closed.
Deliver a controlled release programme, an equipment and application dependency record and support instructions that remain usable during degraded service. Train shift leaders to recognise the limits of available information. The interim director is accountable for the technology delivery organisation; operational managers continue to authorise physical activity. Success is a demonstrable improvement in reliable movement execution and fault isolation, with no dependence on undocumented knowledge held by a few individuals.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in Germany usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in Germany
- A supervisory board member attending meetings does not require a residence permit. A management-board (Vorstand) appointment for a non-EU national does, and is a substantially heavier process.
