The problem this seat exists to solve
The lead will establish and run the decision and dependency process for a complex transformation. The mandate is to reduce avoidable delay caused by unclear authority, incompatible plans and unresolved choices. It is an operational programme role, requiring the lead to secure decisions and coordinate their consequences rather than merely maintain a register.
Identify where accountability breaks down
Review the active plan and recent escalations. Map decisions to the people who can make them, the evidence they need and the latest useful decision date. Distinguish issues that teams can resolve through coordination from choices requiring sponsor, finance, legal or service-owner approval.
Test major dependencies between workstreams. A date in one plan should correspond to a deliverable that another team can actually use. Where definitions or assumptions differ, bring the relevant owners together and record the agreement in a form that changes their plans.
Lead the operating rhythm
Run focused forums that reach decisions or identify precisely what is missing. Escalations should present options and consequences, not simply ask senior leaders to become involved. Track how decisions are implemented and revisit them when underlying conditions change.
The lead will also challenge excessive escalation. Teams need clear delegated authority and should not use programme governance to avoid ordinary responsibility. The process must improve flow without becoming an additional approval layer for every minor choice.
Experience and completion
Candidates should have substantial programme coordination or delivery leadership experience across multiple functions. They need analytical discipline, confident facilitation and evidence of resolving difficult dependencies. A senior enterprise technology title is not required; relevant decision complexity and delivery accountability matter more.
Within the approved mandate, the lead owns the coordination process, decision timetable and escalation preparation. Formal decision rights remain with their designated holders. The engagement should leave a maintained dependency view, clearer authority and fewer recurring unresolved issues. Handover must identify the decisions still outstanding and the consequences of delay. Success is improved delivery flow and more timely choices, not a larger decision log or a meeting schedule that consumes the capacity it is intended to protect.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in Germany usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in Germany
- A supervisory board member attending meetings does not require a residence permit. A management-board (Vorstand) appointment for a non-EU national does, and is a substantially heavier process.
