The problem this seat exists to solve
Applicants should demonstrate experience managing enterprise technology suppliers and delivering sustainable cost improvements. They need enough understanding of applications, hosting and support models to challenge both vendor claims and internal assumptions. Experience in complex healthcare or multi-unit enterprise environments is valuable.
Commercial authority with technical depth
Evidence should include a negotiation or portfolio decision in which the cheapest option was not the best business outcome. Strong financial analysis, stakeholder management and implementation discipline are essential; recommendations without delivered change will not meet the executive nature of the assignment.
Reduce cost without transferring the problem into operations
The interim director will lead a technology supplier and expenditure reset across an enterprise portfolio. The assignment owns the review, negotiation agenda and implementation of approved changes. It must improve commercial discipline while protecting essential services and preserving the capabilities needed for planned integration.
Initial analysis will connect invoices and contracts to services, users and accountable owners. Apparent savings may come from removing unused licences, changing service levels or consolidating providers, but each has different operational consequences. The director will distinguish genuine reductions from deferred expenditure and costs transferred to internal teams.
Negotiate with a clear service position
Supplier discussions should begin with an evidence-based view of demand, performance and alternatives. The appointee will coordinate commercial negotiations and challenge automatic renewals, unclear consumption charges and overlapping support responsibilities. Contract changes must reflect actual service requirements and be reviewed by procurement and legal specialists.
Consolidation may improve bargaining power while increasing dependence on one provider. The director will assess that tradeoff and ensure that exit, transition and retained internal capability are included in the decision. A lower price is insufficient if it removes access to knowledge needed to operate or recover critical enterprise applications.
Commitments and the savings record
The role can redirect review resources and negotiate within approved parameters. Binding commitments, material service reductions and acceptance of increased operational risk require the relevant authority. Where healthcare workflows or sensitive information are affected, operational, privacy and security leaders must participate in acceptance decisions.
Handover should provide a transparent supplier portfolio, accountable contract owners and a realised-savings record reconciled with finance. Remaining commitments, service risks and upcoming renewal decisions must be visible. Success means a lower and more controllable cost base supported by clearer services and responsibilities, with the organisation retaining the capacity to manage its providers after the interim director leaves.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in Germany usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in Germany
- A supervisory board member attending meetings does not require a residence permit. A management-board (Vorstand) appointment for a non-EU national does, and is a substantially heavier process.
