The problem this seat exists to solve
Completion will be demonstrated by functioning independent services, accepted ownership and a controlled exit from transitional arrangements. The handover must identify remaining dependencies, ongoing costs and unresolved risks clearly enough that permanent leaders can manage them without relying on the interim director's personal knowledge or informal relationships.
Readiness defines completion
The interim director will deliver the technology separation of a business unit from shared enterprise services. This is an executive delivery mandate covering the separation plan, cross-functional coordination and readiness evidence. Commercial transaction terms, material expenditure and formal acceptance of residual risk remain with the authorised sponsors.
Locate the shared dependencies
The role begins by identifying what the business actually depends on: identities, applications, data, licences, hosting, service desks and specialist knowledge. Shared arrangements are often poorly reflected in contracts or asset registers. The director must resolve those gaps early enough to inform transitional service agreements and target operating decisions.
The exit date needs an operating model
The appointee will establish which services should be rebuilt, transferred, replaced or temporarily purchased. Each choice must consider business continuity, data access, security responsibilities and the cost of running parallel environments. A short transition can appear cheaper while creating an unmanageable concentration of change.
Transitional services need clear scope, service levels, charging assumptions and exit conditions. The director will coordinate negotiation inputs and ensure that the receiving organisation has the people and processes required to operate independently. Legal counsel owns legal advice; the director owns the completeness and practicality of the technology requirements.
Hold the cutover decision to its evidence
Testing will cover end-to-end business activity, not merely whether systems start successfully. Where healthcare operations or sensitive information are involved, appropriate operational and privacy authorities must approve the proposed handling arrangements. The director may postpone a cutover within delegated governance when readiness evidence is inadequate and must escalate the commercial consequences promptly.
Experience under transactional pressure
Candidates should have led technology carve-outs, separations or comparable transitions involving multiple business functions. They need evidence of managing contractual dependencies, resolving asset or data ambiguities and preparing a business for independent service ownership. Experience in healthcare or another complex enterprise setting is particularly relevant.
The role requires calm negotiation, financial discipline and the ability to distinguish essential separation work from desirable future improvements. Applicants should be able to explain how they protected continuity when a transaction timetable conflicted with operational readiness.

Before you apply — this is an executive role
An interim seat needs work authorisation. A board seat in Germany usually does not.
This is the single most common way a cross-border interim engagement falls apart after it has been agreed. The visa-free position that applies to a non-executive director attending board meetings does not extend to an executive or operating role.
- Position in Germany
- A supervisory board member attending meetings does not require a residence permit. A management-board (Vorstand) appointment for a non-EU national does, and is a substantially heavier process.
