Deep technology and semiconductors organisation in Germany
The problem this seat exists to solve
The director will help the board govern a portfolio of technology initiatives with material cybersecurity implications. The remit includes how new products or capabilities are selected, how their risks are understood and how resources are allocated between innovation and the maintenance of existing commitments. It requires the ability to recognise promising uncertainty without accepting avoidable ambiguity about accountability.
Separate different kinds of investment
Review how management distinguishes exploratory work, product development and operational improvement. Each category needs an appropriate decision basis and evidence of progress. The director should challenge programmes that remain labelled experimental while accumulating long-term commitments and customer dependencies.
Examine the security and resilience assumptions within proposed initiatives. Ask who owns the resulting risks, what specialist input is required and how the organisation will support the capability after launch. A new product should not be approved solely on expected revenue if its continuing obligations exceed available expertise.
Review, redirect or stop
Support portfolio reviews that make choices explicit. Management should identify which initiatives deserve further investment, which need a narrower scope and which should end. The director must be able to assess sunk-cost arguments and recognise when useful learning justifies stopping rather than extending a programme indefinitely.
Candidate evidence and role
Candidates should have senior technology, cybersecurity or board experience with responsibility for innovation investment. They need technical fluency, financial awareness and evidence of decisions across a portfolio rather than advocacy for a single technology. Experience building commercial products is especially relevant.
This is a board seat with collective responsibility and any agreed committee work. It does not confer operational authority over engineering or risk teams. Executives retain delivery and day-to-day prioritisation.
Expected contribution includes better investment distinctions, clearer ownership of cyber exposure and a disciplined account of portfolio progress. Candidates must disclose investments and advisory relationships involving relevant technologies or vendors. The board will expect constructive challenge, the ability to support proportionate risk-taking and continued attention to the consequences of innovation choices after approval.

- Residency test
- None.

- None.
- Work authorisation
- A supervisory board member attending meetings does not require a residence permit. A management-board (Vorstand) appointment for a non-EU national does, and is a substantially heavier process.
