Industrial technology organisation in Germany

The problem this seat exists to solve

This director will bring industrial technology and enterprise-market expertise to the oversight of acquisitions and their integration. The focus is whether the strategic rationale can become a practical commercial result without destroying product capability, customer trust or the specialist knowledge that made the investment attractive.

An acquisition thesis that survives integration

The board requires challenge both before approval and after completion. Integration should not be treated as an administrative checklist, and promised cross-selling should not be accepted without evidence of compatible customers, buying processes and delivery capacity.

Commercial evidence before approval

Examine the commercial assumptions in acquisition cases: addressable demand, product complementarity, channel access, customer concentration and the cost of maintaining overlapping offerings. Test whether expected growth depends on unproven product integration or sales behaviours that existing incentives discourage.

What to preserve and what to combine

After completion, review the balance between consolidation and preservation. Ask which interfaces, brands, channels or product roadmaps need to change and which should remain distinct. Challenge progress measures that count organisational changes without showing customer retention, sales effectiveness or delivery performance.

Applicants should offer senior commercial leadership in industrial technology and meaningful experience with acquisitions, portfolio expansion or post-deal integration. Evidence of real integration decisions is more important than participation in transaction announcements. Candidates need the ability to read financial cases, understand technology dependencies and challenge optimistic synergy claims.

Customer disruption and revised assumptions

Pay attention to commercial disruption created by systems migration, contract changes and altered service responsibilities. Ensure management makes explicit decisions about legacy commitments and product retirement. The director should support honest reconsideration of assumptions where diligence or integration reveals a different reality.

Judgement and the governance boundary

An effective director will know how to ask difficult questions while allowing management to execute. Experience in supervisory or non-executive governance is useful but must be accompanied by current commercial judgement.

The contribution sought is a clearer investment thesis, credible integration priorities and transparent accountability for benefits and disruption. The role includes collective responsibility for wider board matters. Conflicts, independence and eligibility will be reviewed for the appointment. The director will not manage the integration office or take over sales leadership; they will ensure those executives face informed, consistent scrutiny throughout the investment's development.

No nationality or residency test applies to a supervisory board member. The barriers are structural — co-determination, the seat cap and German-language board process — not legal.

Residency test
None.

None.
Work authorisation
A supervisory board member attending meetings does not require a residence permit. A management-board (Vorstand) appointment for a non-EU national does, and is a substantially heavier process.
Tenure limit once appointed
No statutory cap. The Code recommends that the supervisory board decide, and disclose, how many of its shareholder representatives it considers independent, and treats more than twelve years' service as an indicator to be addressed.
