Start with the enterprise decision you need to examine

If your board is examining a recurring service business, I would welcome an initial outline of the enterprise question and the responsibility being considered. The issue might concern an acquisition's starting position, the cost of continuing service, a founder's role or the terms on which customers can leave. Please describe the question without employee-benefit records, beneficiary details, unpublished valuations or confidential customer files. I would first assess whether my administration and founder experience is relevant, and which complementary expertise the discussion requires. Speaking invitations should identify the audience, format and intended subject rather than imply endorsement of a financial product or professional service. An exploratory conversation would establish fit and appropriate next steps; it would not constitute acceptance of an appointment or authority to advise on an individual's benefits.
