Sanjay Tezqevmi

I make the cash consequences of a retail decision visible before a purchase price, allocated expense or future recovery assumption is allowed to stand for the whole financial choice.

Mandate

Make the cash consequences and assumptions of enterprise proposals intelligible

Outcomes

  • Owned an inadequately grounded refurbishment budget
  • Separated allocated expense, avoidable cash and future recovery assumptions
  • Disclosed personal ownership in an employee-liquidity discussion

Decisions in context

I became CFO in January 2020. Twenty-three colleagues work through three heads within ₹3.9 crore annual function expense under Ira Nevqelmi. Zhequrvi employs 280 people and recorded ₹112 crore revenue and ₹7.8 crore operating profit for FY ending March 2026. The family owns 36%, a regional growth fund 52% and employees 12%, including my 0.8%. I have no statutory seat, and the board retains material capital decisions. Vikram Deqzuri owns operating assessment and acceptance. My work has included an owned refurbishment-budget error, a warehouse scenario, a proposed future buyback, early-payment economics and shareholder liquidity. The common contribution is to make the amount attached to a specific decision understandable, while retaining uncertainty and the responsibilities that finance does not take over merely by preparing the account.

Reason for the move

Current CFO appointment without a statutory directorship

Apr 2013 — Dec 2019

Mandate

Connect financial control with enterprise operating and commercial choices

Outcomes

  • Broadened finance leadership across the business
  • Developed decision accounts that retained assumptions and responsible owners
  • Prepared for the CFO remit without claiming board authority

Decisions in context

Finance leadership began in April 2013. I led fifteen colleagues through three leads with ₹2.4 crore annual function expense under the CEO. The company employed 210 people and recorded ₹76 crore revenue for FY ending March 2014. The appointment brought me closer to enterprise proposals involving the retail network, workshops and funding. I learned to ask which part of a financial account actually changed under the decision being considered. A useful recommendation needed more than a correct total: it had to preserve the period, assumptions and operating work relevant to the choice. I worked with colleagues who retained commercial and technical responsibilities, and I held no statutory appointment. The role prepared me for the CFO position by widening the questions finance had to explain without making finance the owner of every answer.

Reason for the move

Advanced to CFO responsibility in January 2020

Sept 2003 — Mar 2013

Financial Controller

Zhequrvi Renewed Furniture

Refurbished wooden furniture sales

Reporting to
Chief Financial Officer

Nine finance colleagues
Financial scope
₹1.1 crore annual function expense

Mandate

Build financial control around the stages of acquiring and preparing refurbished goods

Outcomes

  • Moved into a retail business with variable restoration needs
  • Connected financial accounts with operating assessments
  • Kept control responsibility separate from product acceptance

Decisions in context

I joined Zhequrvi in September 2003 as financial controller. Nine colleagues worked within ₹1.1 crore annual expense under the CFO. The 120-person business recorded ₹34 crore revenue for FY ending March 2004. Refurbished furniture required me to understand the stages between acquisition and a saleable offer, including variation in condition and the work operating colleagues needed to assess. I developed financial controls in conversation with those owners rather than assume that an acquisition record described the whole commercial task. The role also taught me to explain what a management measure included before allowing it into a wider performance discussion. I did not hold authority over product acceptance or enterprise capital. Those boundaries helped me understand how finance could make an important contribution while remaining dependent on evidence from other disciplines.

Reason for the move

Promoted to head of finance in April 2013

Jul 1993 — Aug 2003

Finance Manager

Veqzermi Household Goods

Sector
Household-goods distribution and retail supply
Ownership
Private household-goods enterprise
Company scale
₹49 crore company revenue, FY ending March 1994
Employees
180 company employees
Geography
Indian household-goods commercial accounts
Reporting to
Head of Finance
Team
Eight finance colleagues
Financial scope
₹62 lakh annual function expense

Mandate

Make financial accounts useful to commercial and operating decision-makers

Outcomes

  • Accepted team and budget responsibility
  • Learned to distinguish reporting allocations from proposed cash consequences
  • Developed explanations for colleagues outside finance

Decisions in context

I became finance manager in July 1993. Veqzermi employed 180 people and recorded ₹49 crore revenue for FY ending March 1994. I led eight colleagues with ₹62 lakh annual function expense under the finance head. Management responsibility required me to explain financial distinctions to colleagues making commercial and operating choices. A report could be technically correct and still be read as evidence for a different question. I learned to ask what action the reader was considering and which amounts would change if it occurred. That habit developed through collaboration rather than authority over every function. The experience prepared me for financial control in a refurbished retailer, where the cost and condition of goods would need particularly careful separation. I left with a stronger interest in the decision a financial account is meant to serve.

Reason for the move

Joined Zhequrvi as financial controller in September 2003

Jul 1985 — Jun 1993

Junior Cost Accountant

Veqzermi Household Goods

Sector
Household-goods commercial operations
Ownership
Private regional business
Company scale
₹8.6 crore company revenue, FY ending March 1986
Employees
55 company employees
Geography
Regional Indian household-goods accounts
Reporting to
Accounts Manager
Team
One of six accounts colleagues; no direct reports
Financial scope
No delegated spending authority

Mandate

Understand the activities and scope behind recorded costs

Outcomes

  • Entered employment after completing commerce
  • Built cost-accounting experience before leading a team
  • Learned to connect a number with the activity it described

Decisions in context

I joined Veqzermi in July 1985 after completing commerce in May. The fifty-five-person company recorded ₹8.6 crore revenue for FY ending March 1986. I worked among six accounts colleagues under the accounts manager, with no direct reports or delegated expenditure. The role gave me time to understand the activities behind recorded costs and the different questions those figures could answer. Senior colleagues retained reporting decisions and management recommendations. I learned that a number's precision did not remove the need to explain its scope, especially when it moved from a supporting record into a commercial discussion. This appointment began a continuous forty-one-year career. It established a habit of following the work behind an amount before deciding whether that amount could responsibly support the next business choice.

Reason for the move

Moved into finance management in July 1993

What I am looking for next

I would consider one first outside non-executive role where financial judgement complements the board's operating and commercial experience. My contribution would be to examine which cash changes under a proposal, what remains an assumption and whether the account respects the authority of other owners. I would need to learn the receiving enterprise beyond the finance function and avoid becoming an informal second CFO. Fictional IICA registration in June 2026 and proficiency assessment in September are complete; these facts do not settle suitability or eligibility for a particular appointment. Twenty-four provisional days must cover induction, preparation, travel and unusual demands, with employer agreement. My 0.8% shareholding and relationships with the family, growth fund, colleagues, suppliers and customers require disclosure before confidential access. I would seek a chair who values clear reasoning and expects me to acknowledge a budget mistake I owned. The role should allow a useful collective contribution while leaving execution and qualified technical decisions with management.
