The seat I am pursuing
I would explore one initial non-executive role in an industrial or analytically intensive enterprise where the board wants stronger questions about the meaning of its evidence. A risk, technology or strategy committee may be relevant after its remit and my eligibility are examined. I would not claim committee-chair readiness from the CDO title. My fictional registration is complete, but assessment remains unfinished and no exemption is represented. The provisional twenty-four days must cover induction, reading, travel and unusual demands, with permission from my employer. I would want to contribute beyond data topics and learn from directors whose experience differs from mine. The chair should expect me to explain an analytical concern in business language and to accept challenge when my own interpretation is incomplete. A clear mandate, manageable relationships and sufficient preparation time would be conditions for a responsible first commitment.
Governance learning and readiness
IICA Independent Directors’ Databank: Registered
Fictional IICA databank registration completed in June 2026. Proficiency assessment remains unfinished and no exemption is claimed; requirements for the actual appointment still need qualified review.
- Develop enterprise judgement beyond analytical measures
- Understand how directors examine evidence without directing the analysis team
- Learn sector duties and the responsibilities of any proposed committee
My contribution to a board
I would help directors examine whether the evidence in a material business claim corresponds to the decision they are being asked to support. My experience includes a pooled rate I approved incorrectly, selected returns that could not establish a wider failure rate and a model whose high accuracy concealed complete failure on the uncommon cases of interest. Those examples help me ask about the population, unit and intended use of a summary. I would bring that discipline into collective discussion while learning from colleagues with financial, operating and people expertise. The board should not become a statistical review desk. It should understand enough about a material assurance to challenge its meaning and recognise what remains unmeasured. I would also want to make my questions constructive, so management can explain the next evidence or decision needed. My contribution would be strongest where the institution values clear reasoning over the comfort of an impressive score.

Judgement in practice
01Taking responsibility for the meaning of a pooled rate
I approved a 70% combined result from regional rates of 90% and 50%, even though their populations were one hundred and nine hundred records. Under the common completeness criterion, 540 of 1,000 records gave 54%. The sixteen-point correction cost ₹19 lakh to implement and did not represent deterioration over time. I would ask a board whether management's combined measure retains the unit its label implies. The question is about the meaning of a material account, not directing every calculation. My own approval belongs in the explanation, because a leader must distinguish a formula that was evaluated correctly from a conclusion she allowed it to represent incorrectly.
02Preserving a return signal without enlarging its population
Sixty-three of 180 returned totes showed recorded hinge wear. Thirty-five per cent described that returned group, not all shipments. The separate 35,000 shipment count was not a matched exposure cohort and could not simply become the denominator. I would ask whether the evidence supporting a board-level product account reflects the population named in the conclusion. The observations still deserved technical attention, and we funded ₹52 lakh of follow-up data work. Directors should be able to retain the signal and its limits together, while qualified owners examine causes and suitability. A narrower conclusion can support responsible investigation without manufacturing reassurance or alarm about the whole product population.
03Questioning the work hidden by a model's headline score
A predeployment candidate labelled all 5,000 orders routine, achieving 99.2% accuracy while missing forty special-documentation cases. We held it and incurred ₹44 lakh in assessment and rework. I would ask a board to understand the intended assistance and which errors the evaluation makes visible. The score was not false, but it did not establish usefulness for the uncommon work. This case claims no live customer harm or legal failure. Directors can require an intelligible account of purpose, evidence and authority without selecting model settings. Human commercial owners retained actual documentation decisions, and any later recommendation would need evidence appropriate to the role proposed for the revised assistance.
My first year on a board
My induction would begin with the receiving enterprise's decisions and responsibilities, rather than with an inventory of its dashboards. I would learn how it creates value, which commitments matter and where operating, financial and people judgements depend on analytical evidence. I would follow selected measures from their stated purpose to the populations they describe and the management actions they inform. That work should happen through agreed board and management channels, not through an informal parallel analytics team. I would seek the chair's guidance on the material questions where my experience adds most and the areas where I need broader learning. Sector duties and committee responsibilities would require deliberate study. I would also ask for feedback on whether my challenges are understandable and useful to colleagues without statistical training. The first-year aim would be reliable preparation and a growing whole-enterprise perspective, with the restraint to leave detailed execution to management and its qualified specialists.
Conflicts and their management
I would disclose my executive employment and 2% holding, together with relevant founder, industrial-owner, customer, supplier and data-service relationships before accessing confidential board material. A qualified review would need to assess the particular appointment, applicable independence requirements and any committee restrictions. Unpublished analytical records and commercial information from Renvqathi would remain protected; experience can inform judgement without transferring another enterprise's data. I would discuss how exclusions from particular matters would affect the usefulness of my participation. If the role's central decisions could not be examined responsibly because of those relationships, I would be prepared not to accept it. Employer consent and realistic capacity would be revisited as duties changed. The aim is a workable contribution with understood boundaries, rather than a declaration that disclosure alone solves every conflict. A first appointment should leave enough room for full preparation and independent judgement on the matters the director is expected to consider.
My independence statement
My employment, 2% employee shareholding and connections with Renvqathi's founders, industrial owner, customers and suppliers need assessment for a proposed outside appointment. No current statutory seat does not establish independence.
