The familiar number described an earlier stage

The sponsor account I approved in 2019 contained a number everyone recognised. Six hundred people had confirmed their registration for the selected forum. I allowed that number to appear as attendance, even though Imtiaz Zeqravli’s check-in account showed 420 people present. The registration record did not need to be declared false for the marketing claim to be wrong. I had used evidence of one stage to describe another stage that mattered to the sponsor’s decision.

I began work in June 1994 after commerce studies at Tevzoni Business College. Qezralni Delegate Services employed me as an accounts assistant in an eight-person group. I supported delegate and client records under supervision without approving sponsor claims or programme commitments. The work taught me that a booking, a confirmation and a person arriving were related events, but they were not the same event. A useful account had to preserve which stage it described rather than allow the most attractive count to become the default summary.

In April 2002 I became Delegate Accounts Manager, leading twelve colleagues within ₹1.4 crore annual function expense. We helped clients understand the participation and service arrangements surrounding their events. I learned to distinguish the organiser’s activity from the participant’s outcome: preparing a programme did not establish attendance, and arranging an introduction did not establish a useful commercial conversation. Clients retained their programme and contractual decisions. Our work was to make the account understandable enough for them to decide what they were offering and what remained uncertain.

I joined Drezqavni Professional Forums in April 2010 as Forum Marketing Manager, with eighteen colleagues and ₹3.1 crore annual function expense. Regional programmes gave me a continuing responsibility for the proposition participants encountered before committing their time. I worked with programme colleagues to connect marketing language with the audience and conversations the event could actually support. The role also exposed the temptation to let a familiar headline do more work than its evidence justified, especially when a larger number or broader reach made the offer easier to explain quickly.

Promotion to Head of Audience Propositions followed in April 2016. Twenty-three colleagues worked within ₹4.7 crore annual function expense. The registration-to-attendance mistake occurred during that appointment. We used ₹24 lakh over six weeks to correct the sponsor account and revise review of the evidence behind audience claims. I kept the six hundred registrations separate from the 420 check-ins and did not add an unmeasured claim about satisfaction or sales. The correction required me to acknowledge a distinction I already understood but had failed to preserve when approving the commercial account.

I became CMO in April 2021. The appointment also required me to reconcile programme capacity with the commitments marketing made to sponsors before a forum opened. In 2023 a programme with six editions across three cities was being described as a countrywide footprint. I asked the team to explain the actual locations and the audience relationships built there. We used ₹47 lakh over nine weeks to reposition the proposition around its regional strengths. That did not establish that other markets lacked demand or prevent future expansion. It made the current offer more specific instead of asking a future ambition to appear as an existing network.

In 2025 we reviewed forty-eight proposed meetings. Sixteen involved buyer functions and thirty-two involved supplier or adviser functions. I withdrew a proposition that treated the whole schedule as buyer meetings and used ₹38 lakh over ten weeks to recast it as a curated peer programme. A proposed meeting did not prove attendance, purchasing authority or a completed transaction. The revised account gave participants a clearer basis for deciding whether those conversations suited their purpose without declaring the non-buyer relationships valueless.

Today I lead twenty-seven marketing colleagues and report to Anupama Qelzomri. Imtiaz’s programme account remains a necessary challenge to our language. I want the proposition to respect a participant’s judgement by explaining the opportunity rather than borrowing authority from an inflated label. My executive presentations do not establish statutory board experience, and further preparation is needed before an outside role. The question I would carry into that work is practical: can the person being invited to commit time understand the room, the reach and the relationship we are actually offering them?

A leadership conviction

A participant gives us time as well as money. The proposition should explain who is likely to be present, where the programme has actually operated and what kind of conversation we are offering before they make that commitment.

Perspectives from colleagues

Darryl made the regional programme explain its own value instead of using a countrywide label. He separated our growth ambition from the presence a participant could actually assess today.

I put the check-in account beside the registration figure he had approved. He corrected the attendance claim and kept his own decision in the story, rather than blame the source record for the broader conclusion.
