Circular-Product Engineering GCC Portfolio Adviser mandate in Copenhagen, Denmark · Home Appliance Manufacturing
A home-appliance manufacturer needs a nine-month board adviser to challenge which India engineering initiatives can become scalable repair, refurbishment and product-traceability capabilities rather than disconnected sustainability demonstrations.
The mandate
India teams have produced repair diagnostics, material records and refurbishment concepts, yet product lines treat them as sustainability demonstrations without adoption budgets or service-network owners. Claimed environmental and commercial benefits use inconsistent baselines, while supplier data rights remain uncertain. Directors want to identify which initiatives represent durable engineering capabilities and which should stop before another innovation wave begins.
Nine monthly portfolio inquiries form the assignment, with two adviser days spent following one initiative from product design through field repair or recovery route. Four committee sessions and four repair-network, product-line or India reviews are included. Questions about public sustainability claims are referred to accountable counsel and assurance teams; the adviser challenges product evidence and adoption design.
The appointment lasts nine months and finishes when the board dispositions the selected portfolio and approves capability gates. Any renewal to examine scaled execution requires a separate resolution, revised conflict review and explicit operating sample. The adviser is not retained to endorse subsequent sustainability reporting or supplier declarations.
There is no line authority and no executive responsibility for product design, sourcing, claims, investment, service operations or staffing. Management owns initiative delivery and evidence; directors decide portfolio capital. The adviser may recommend closure or redesign but cannot approve a product change, certify environmental benefit or negotiate supplier data.
Work for appliance competitors, repair networks, material suppliers, traceability platforms, recyclers, assurance providers or startups under review creates a conflict requiring disclosure. Prior investment in a proposed technology must also be declared. The chair controls recusal, and no fee may depend on initiative selection, claimed impact or vendor award.
Why the board wants this voice
Sustainability teams value ambition, product lines protect launch economics and India innovators need global sponsors, so demonstration quality is hard to judge internally. Repair partners and suppliers also control evidence essential to adoption. Independent product-engineering experience can help directors test scalable capability without certifying claims.
What you will own
- Challenge initiative theses across customer problem, repair outcome, product decision, reusable capability and adoption owner.
- Test baselines for service cost, product life, material recovery, refurbishment yield and avoidable replacement.
- Examine traceability, diagnostic, supplier-data, intellectual-property and field-network dependencies before portfolio commitment.
- Probe whether India teams hold product authority and service relationships needed beyond prototype delivery.
- Shape gates from lab evidence through product-line test, repair-network adoption, scaled economics and deliberate closure.
- Evaluate incentives when product complexity, spare-parts revenue or supplier contracts conflict with circular outcomes.
- Frame board choices to scale, combine, redirect or stop initiatives with confidence limits and unresolved evidence.
Candidate qualifications
- Governed circular-product engineering across repairability, refurbishment, traceability or material recovery for globally distributed durable goods.
- Converted an India engineering demonstration into an adopted global product or service capability with named ownership.
- Closed a high-profile sustainability initiative when field evidence or lifecycle economics failed its stated thesis.
- Challenged environmental baselines and attribution without presenting an independent assurance or legal opinion.
- Resolved supplier-data and repair-network dependencies that constrained product traceability or diagnostic scale.
- Advised directors independently of appliance makers, platforms, recyclers, suppliers and assurance providers.
Non-negotiables
- Can complete four committee sessions and four field, product-line or India evidence reviews within nine months.
- Will disclose appliance, repair, recycling, material, traceability, assurance and startup relationships.
- Brings circular product-to-service adoption evidence; sustainability reporting or innovation facilitation alone is insufficient.
- Accepts no authority over product claims, supplier selection, service operations or capital allocation.
- 49 words maximum. Describe a circular-product initiative you stopped after field or lifecycle evidence contradicted its promise.
- 49 words maximum. Which repair, supplier or traceability relationship could create a conflict in this portfolio?
- 49 words maximum. What adoption gate proves an India demonstration has become a durable product capability?
