International Tax Compliance Transformation Director mandate in London, United Kingdom

Confidential International Tax Compliance Transformation Director in London, United Kingdom, reporting to the Global Head of Tax Operations. Interim Taxation appointment at Director level, a 8-month mandate horizon; five days a week.

The mandate

The interim Director will stabilise and redesign the operating path for international direct-tax information obligations whose ownership crosses tax, legal, finance and local teams. The immediate need is a single, risk-ranked transformation program that protects live deadlines while removing recurring manual failure. The leader must start within four weeks and leave a permanent operating owner, not an unfinished roadmap.

The first three weeks will reconcile obligations, work in progress, source data, providers, controls and known defects. The Director will divide the portfolio into protect-now, redesign and consciously retain categories. Live filings cannot become a reason to defer root-cause work, but redesign cannot put statutory dates or evidence integrity at risk.

Temporary authority includes sequencing the transformation, assigning workstream owners, setting readiness gates, approving routine control changes and pausing migrations that fail acceptance. Formal filings, reserved technical interpretations, platform procurement and permanent staffing remain with authorised executives. Domestic direct-tax returns and indirect-tax compliance are outside scope.

Handover starts after the first redesigned wave. The nominated permanent leader must run the second wave, decide exceptions and present performance to governance while the interim observes. Exit requires protected deadlines, accepted workflows, tested evidence, service ownership, a controlled defect backlog and a twelve-month improvement plan signed by the Global Head of Tax Operations.

What you will own

  • Establish a verified international-tax obligation and process inventory with deadline, data, technical, provider and control dependencies.
  • Separate urgent filing protection from structural redesign and assign clear decision criteria for moving work between those tracks.
  • Redesign intake, preparation, technical approval, sign-off, submission and receipt evidence for the selected priority obligations.
  • Define service measures for timely readiness, evidence quality, rework, late technical change, control override and recurrence.
  • Approve pilot migrations only after data, authority, training, contingency and reconciliation tests meet the documented gate.
  • Maintain a defect register that distinguishes calculation, source, workflow, ownership and technology failures and requires retesting after correction.
  • Prepare the permanent owner through a successor-led filing wave, simulated missing-data incident and observed governance review.
  • Transfer accepted workflows, controls, provider obligations, residual risks and a sequenced twelve-month roadmap at departure.

Candidate qualifications

  • At least 16 years in international tax operations or compliance, including Director-level transformation under active statutory deadlines.
  • A program where you protected a live filing calendar while redesigning the process, with separate evidence of continuity and lasting change.
  • Breadth across information reporting, international calculations, entity data, tax accounting dependencies and provider governance.
  • Experience deciding which variations require local treatment and which represent uncontrolled deviation from a global standard.
  • A migration you paused because tax acceptance evidence was weak, including the eventual correction and release decision.
  • Evidence of identifying root cause accurately across tax, data, workflow, owner and platform dimensions.
  • Proven interim handover through a successor-led live filing and exception response.

Working terms and boundaries

  • The eight-month engagement is five days a week; any two-month extension requires an incomplete successor-led transformed filing wave.
  • The interim governs sequencing, controls and delegated release gates; filings, reserved positions, procurement and permanent appointments remain elsewhere.
  • Domestic return production, indirect taxes and unrelated platform replacement are excluded from transformation ownership.
  • On-site London attendance is required through diagnosis and the first redesigned wave, with travel tied to critical evidence dependencies.
  • Completion means protected deadlines, accepted priority workflows, successor operation, retested defects and signed residual ownership.
