A biological crop-protection producer needs a release-logistics design that preserves live-insect condition, development stage and farm readiness from breeding room through placement across variable Andean routes.

The mandate

Insectaries report complete dispatch while growers report late, overheated or developmentally mistimed predators and parasitoids that cannot be released into the intended crop window. Orders change after pest scouting, mixed species travel under incompatible temperature or light conditions, rural cross-docks hold parcels beyond their viable clock, and farms may be spraying, locked or short of trained placement labour on arrival. The defined problem is to design a live-organism service whose breeding release, transport and authorised farm placement form one dependable event, without turning a transport design into an efficacy, biosafety or agronomic recommendation.

Five named deliverables govern the commission: a crop-demand and biological-release window model; a species, life-stage, pack and condition taxonomy; a hatchery-to-farm network with cross-dock, route and exception rules; a farm-readiness and failed-delivery operating protocol; and a controlled two-crop pilot with commercial schedules and an implementation backlog. The design must separate predator, parasitoid and pollinator constraints; greenhouse and open-field handoffs; direct, distributor and adviser-mediated service; reusable and single-trip packs; and viability evidence from claimed field performance. Cost includes breeding discard, conditioning, packaging, waiting, replacement, unsuccessful placement and container recovery.

Milestone one closes after thirteen days when twelve historical and accompanied shipments establish whether time, temperature, light, orientation and farm-receipt evidence are fit for design. The second gate, in week six, fixes crop and organism archetypes rather than depot catchments. During weeks nine through sixteen, authorised client teams operate six laboratories covering insectary release, mountain-route delay, cross-dock transfer, pesticide stand-down, absent farm labour and rejected condition. The two-crop pilot occupies the following five weeks. Month six resolves species-route dispositions, provider schedules, packaging requirements, training interfaces, data controls, full-event economics and a sequenced twelve-month rollout.

Acceptance requires both pilot crops to reconcile breeder lot, species and life stage, authorised release, pack condition, custody, exposure clock, farm readiness, named receiver, placement decision and return or disposal for at least 95% of sampled consignments. A late vehicle and an unplanned pesticide interval must activate an evidenced hold, reroute or replacement without the consultant deciding biological usability. Client entomology and stewardship owners approve every technical boundary. Finance must reproduce cost per accepted placement event and retain mortality, rejection, replacement and unreturned packaging rather than valuing shipped units alone.

The client supplies crop calendars, de-identified orders, production-release records, organism and packaging specifications, approved condition limits, logger data, carrier scans, cross-dock dwell, farm access permissions, placement records, complaints, replacement costs and controlled pilot staff. Consultants will not select a biological agent, declare insects viable, prescribe release density, approve pesticide compatibility, handle live colonies independently, make biosafety or regulatory submissions, certify efficacy or manage farm labour. Insectary process redesign, software build, carrier procurement and live commercial rollout are excluded; missing scientific judgments remain named client dependencies.

Why this is external work

Production, entomology, carriers and crop advisers each see one clock, while the grower receives a single perishable service outcome. An independent live-logistics team can expose where nominal dispatch success loses biological and farm readiness without selling a species, route provider or efficacy claim. The engagement leaves operating architecture and pilot evidence for client specialists to implement.

What you will own

  • Reconstruct twelve insectary-to-farm journeys across crop signal, production lot, biological release, conditioning, pack-out, custody, exposure, receipt, placement decision and closure.
  • Segment service by organism, life stage, crop window, environmental tolerance, route duration, cross-dock need, farm access and available placement labour.
  • Define handoffs among insectary planning, entomology, Quality, pack-out, carrier, distributor, crop adviser, grower and customer recovery teams.
  • Build exception paths for delayed vehicle, temperature or light exposure, mixed shipment, pesticide stand-down, absent receiver, rejected condition and unreturned container.
  • Test packaging, route, information and farm-readiness rules in six client-operated laboratories and a two-crop controlled pilot.
  • Quantify breeding discard, conditioning, pack, freight, waiting, mortality, rejection, replacement and container loss per accepted placement event.
  • Deliver the accepted architecture, species-route schedules, evidence model, provider requirements, training boundaries and costed twelve-month implementation sequence.

Candidate qualifications

  • Has designed live-insect, biological crop-input, pollination or another development-stage-sensitive organism distribution service across rural networks.
  • Can evidence a shipment model changed after farm readiness and placement timing were measured alongside package condition and transit duration.
  • Understands insectary release, life-stage clocks, conditioning, light and temperature exposure, rural cross-docks, farm access, rejection and replacement logistics.
  • Has run controlled field pilots while preserving entomology, agronomy, biosafety, pesticide, regulatory and grower-labour decision rights.
  • Can distinguish organism produced, scientifically released, packed cohort, condition-compliant arrival, authorised placement and claimed crop outcome.
  • Has left commercial and stewardship teams with species-route rules they could execute without continued consultant interpretation.

Non-negotiables

  • Will observe twelve complete live shipments and six crop, cross-dock or farm-release laboratories before finalising the network.
  • Will not choose organisms, declare viability, prescribe field use, approve pesticide compatibility, certify efficacy or direct farm labour.
  • Brings direct live-organism or tightly time-and-condition-sensitive rural logistics design; ordinary parcel-network experience is insufficient.
  • Must reconcile the COP10.8 billion fee to COP1.8 billion monthly across six months and deliver all five acceptance milestones.
