After pilot optical engines failed to reproduce at assembly scale, a Singapore supplier needs executive transfer leadership to stabilise photonic yield, reliability and customer output within fourteen months.
The mandate
The industrialisation head exited after engineering-line optical engines met link performance but production builds showed unstable coupling loss, laser-attach drift and test retest rates that erased capacity. Foundry, packaging and module teams use different genealogy, and customer engineering keeps changing link-margin assumptions during the ramp. The interim leader must create an integrated transfer authority without allowing downstream tuning to conceal upstream photonic variation.
Fourteen months provide the recovery window. The first eight weeks establish configuration control, common optical-loss paretos and containment for committed shipments. Months three through eight close alignment, attach, contamination and calibration mechanisms while qualifying production tooling. Months nine through twelve demonstrate mixed-volume capability and reliability; the final two months install a permanent leader, transfer customer concessions and prove weekly output planning.
Handover is achieved when first-pass optical yield and burn-in survival remain above agreed thresholds for ten consecutive production weeks, wafer-to-module genealogy is complete, and customer link margin is reconciled to released test limits. The successor must chair one supplier deviation, approve an equipment-matching decision and lead a customer quality review. Rework-dependent output and unpriced screening cannot be counted as stable capacity.
The leader may stop builds, sequence engineering lots, approve production recipes, redirect optical-test capacity, set supplier containment and commit SGD 22 million within the authorised industrialisation envelope. They own shipment-readiness recommendations and production release inside approved customer specifications. Product architecture, contractual specification changes, long-term sourcing awards and capital above the envelope remain with the product president and established boards.
Excluded are redesigning the transceiver portfolio, owning foundry process development, negotiating customer prices or replacing the enterprise planning platform. The mandate covers transfer of the selected engines from controlled pilot success to repeatable production. Patent disputes, export classifications and customer warranty settlements remain with accountable legal and commercial executives, using the programme’s traceable evidence.
Why this seat is open
Optical-engine volume failures cross wafer variation, sub-micron alignment, laser behaviour, packaging materials and measurement calibration. Each current leader controls one stage, but no one can resolve a loss that migrates between them or reject a misleading downstream workaround. A time-bounded executive can protect shipments now and leave an integrated transfer system with a credible owner.
What you will own
- Establish end-to-end genealogy linking photonic wafers, lasers, attach recipes, optical interfaces, package materials, calibration and module results.
- Decompose optical loss and link margin across coupling, waveguide, laser, fibre attach, thermal state and test-system contribution.
- Govern engineering splits and production experiments using sufficient replication, reference units, equipment matching and decision deadlines.
- Stabilise active alignment, adhesive cure, contamination controls, laser handling and optical connector processes at production takt.
- Reconcile wafer screening, subassembly test, final optical test and burn-in to minimise escapes without institutionalising costly over-screening.
- Direct foundry, equipment and material suppliers through evidence-based containment, corrective action, qualification and deviation expiry.
- Transfer production limits, customer concessions, open mechanisms, capacity assumptions and successor-led release demonstrations.
Candidate qualifications
- Led silicon-photonics or high-volume optical-module industrialisation across wafer, assembly, test and reliability boundaries.
- Can evidence a coupling or optical-loss mechanism that migrated between process stages and defeated local yield ownership.
- Understands photonic-device variation, laser integration, precision alignment, optical packaging, calibration and link-budget translation.
- Has converted pilot recipes into production controls without relying indefinitely on expert tuning or repeated rework.
- Managed customer qualification while foundry and assembly evidence carried incompatible configuration and genealogy conventions.
- Developed a successor capable of deciding supplier deviations, test limits and shipment readiness under revenue pressure.

- Will lead onsite in Singapore and attend the published Johor and Hsinchu technical councils.
- Has personally transferred photonic hardware into sustained volume, not only completed device research or prototype design.
