The mandate

The group’s growth plan adds biomass and processing commitments across adjacent farming zones while depending on the same smolt, feed, wellboat and specialist health capacity. Business cases assess sites separately, although pathogen pathways, treatment windows, weather and logistics can create correlated failure. Directors keep returning to how much concentration is prudent and when nominal capacity should be held back. The adviser provides operational challenge to growth choices without making veterinary, regulatory or farm-management decisions.

The monthly commitment comprises one biological-performance review, one scale-scenario session, chair preparation and either committee attendance or a field evidence day. Five formal committee meetings are included, and material mortality or regulatory events receive a response within twenty-four hours. Quarterly visits will rotate among hatchery, marine farm and processing operations so board discussion connects biomass plans with fish condition, handling load, wellboat access and harvest flexibility.

The appointment lasts ten months through the next stocking and capital-allocation cycle. The committee may renew for one additional quarter if a material zone or licence decision shifts, provided conflicts are refreshed and the board records why continuing voice is needed. The adviser will conclude with a scale-risk framework, decision history and calendar of leading indicators owned by the committee rather than an indefinite dependency on personal judgment.

The adviser has no line responsibility or executive authority over stocking, treatment, harvest, fish-health action, environmental compliance, processing, procurement or investment. Qualified fish-health professionals and regulators retain their judgments; managers operate farms; directors allocate capital. The adviser may challenge concentration assumptions, press for scenario evidence and recommend a conditioned or staged decision, but cannot direct a site, prescribe treatment, certify welfare or communicate externally for the group.

Interests involving competing farmers, feed companies, genetics providers, wellboat operators, treatment suppliers, processors, certification bodies, investors or licence counterparties require disclosure. A relevant relationship leads to recusal, restricted information or appointment termination at the chair’s discretion. Other non-conflicting board work is permitted within the agreed time envelope. Compensation will not vary with biomass approved, licence outcome, harvest volume, share price or supplier selection.

Candidate qualifications

• Has held senior aquaculture operating accountability across multiple farms, zones and biological production stages.
• Can evidence a growth or stocking recommendation changed because correlated biosecurity exposure was initially understated.
• Understands smolt, feed, biomass, fish health, wellboats, treatment windows, harvest and processing interdependence.
• Has advised directors during mortality or welfare pressure without encroaching on veterinary and regulatory judgments.
• Can distinguish nominal licensed capacity from responsibly deployable capacity under real biological and logistics constraints.
• Is independent of relevant farmers, suppliers, vessel operators, processors, investors and licence counterparties.

Non-negotiables

• Can attend five Oslo committee meetings and complete quarterly hatchery, farm or processing evidence visits.
• Will not offer veterinary prescriptions, welfare certification or regulatory conclusions through an advisory appointment.
• Brings direct biological-production scale experience; seafood strategy or investment analysis alone is inadequate.
• Will disclose supplier, competitor, investor and licence relationships before accessing non-public operating evidence.
