The mandate

The digital-twin capability must integrate fleet engineering knowledge, vendor assumptions and modeller uncertainty into maintained fitness standards across vessel class, route and maintenance context, with clear product ownership spanning Chennai, fleet operations and the reliability council.

The interim must join onsite in Chennai within fourteen days and lead for fifteen months. Recruitment of a permanent maritime digital-products executive begins after three vessel-class twins pass route, sensor-loss and maintenance scenarios, anticipated in month eight. The successor will lead one fleet deployment decision and an urgent model-withdrawal exercise during a six-week overlap.

Handover requires five digital twins to have intended-use envelopes, configuration and sensor provenance, uncertainty thresholds, named model and marine owners, exercised withdrawal paths and observed benefit. Chennai product leaders must chair two fleet reviews without overseas shadow approval. The successor receives vessel exceptions, vendor dependencies, model limitations, benefit evidence, talent actions and open safety questions.

The interim may withdraw a model recommendation, pause deployment to a vessel class, require physical inspection, change product acceptance gates and commit up to ₹42 crore within the approved portfolio. The master and marine officers retain vessel command; authorised engineering officers approve maintenance and safety decisions; fleet planning owns commercial schedules. Chennai leaders own digital-product fitness and escalation within those boundaries.

Vessel operations, maintenance execution, chartering, procurement of fleet hardware, statutory surveys and models outside the five named products are excluded. The seat covers digital-twin product authority, evidence, marine interfaces, vendor knowledge, India leadership and succession. It cannot substitute analytical recommendation for accountable nautical or engineering judgment.

The infeasible recommendation revealed a product whose technical output was detached from vessel configuration and operating constraint, followed by executive removal. Marine teams distrust central models, while vendors and source experts control crucial assumptions. A temporary maritime product leader can restore fitness decisions in Chennai and prove them through real fleet contexts.
