High-Density Power Quality Recovery Leader

High-Density Power Quality Recovery Leader mandate in New York, United States · AI Inference Exchange Infrastructure

An AI inference exchange needs a fourteen-month executive after harmonic distortion and protection coordination faults repeatedly tripped high-density halls while nominal utility capacity remained available.

The mandate

Rapid deployment of accelerator racks changed harmonic, inrush and transient behaviour beyond the assumptions used to coordinate campus protection. Halls have tripped during workload ramps and utility transfers even though aggregate megawatts remain below contract capacity. The critical-power executive was removed after teams repeatedly reclosed equipment without a shared event reconstruction or an agreed boundary among utility, facility and IT loads.

The interim must assume the New York seat within three weeks and lead for fourteen months, with an extension possible only if a utility witness date delays final integrated testing. The permanent power-systems search starts after two halls meet stable operating envelopes, expected around month eight. The successor will overlap for six weeks and command the last high-load transfer test.

Handover requires a validated electrical model to reproduce material trips, protection and ride-through settings to be coordinated across utility entrance through rack power, harmonic and transient envelopes to cover approved workload ramps, three integrated failure exercises to pass, released capacity to carry signed operating limits, and the permanent leader to accept settings, concessions, maintenance and residual-risk registers.

The interim may stop energisation, cap rack loading, change operating sequence, reject commissioning evidence, redirect internal engineers and commit up to US$45 million within the authorised recovery. Protection philosophy changes, permanent hiring, utility contract amendment, new campus design and decisions above US$10 million require committee approval. Electrical safety limits and statutory witnessing may not be waived.

Accelerator procurement, model-serving software, general real-estate expansion and redesign of unaffected low-density offices are explicitly out of scope. The assignment owns power quality, protection coordination, workload-to-electrical envelopes, transfer and ride-through testing, event evidence, released compute capacity and the operating organisation for the affected campuses.

Why this seat is open

The trips showed that utility capacity and usable high-density capacity were being treated as the same quantity, while executive removal left nobody accountable for the electrical-to-workload interface. Customer demand continues to consume reservation commitments that the halls cannot yet support reliably. A temporary leader must impose safe limits, resolve evidence across disciplines and induct permanent authority after full-load operation is proven.

What you will own

  • Reconstruct trips across utility waveform, switchgear, protection relays, UPS, transformers, busways, power supplies, controls and workload ramps.
  • Establish validated models and measured envelopes for harmonics, inrush, fault current, voltage excursion, ramp rate and load imbalance.
  • Decide temporary rack caps, sequence changes, filter remediation, protection settings and capacity-release gates by hall.
  • Coordinate utility, facility and IT protection boundaries with versioned settings, accountable approval and safe rollback.
  • Command integrated tests involving transfer, generator start, UPS transition, rapid workload change, component isolation and utility disturbance.
  • Install event evidence that time-aligns electrical measurements, control state, rack telemetry, workload scheduling and operator action.
  • Transfer models, settings, test results, hall limits, supplier defects and escalation authority through successor-led energisation.

Candidate qualifications

  • Held executive responsibility for critical power supporting high-density HPC, AI, semiconductor or comparable nonlinear loads.
  • Diagnosed harmonic, inrush, protection-coordination or ride-through failures that occurred below nominal capacity limits.
  • Joined electrical and workload telemetry to reproduce events across utility, facility and rack boundaries.
  • Led integrated high-load transfer and disturbance tests with formal safety, witness and rollback controls.
  • Released compute capacity against measured electrical envelopes rather than nameplate megawatts or average utilisation.
  • Handed critical-power recovery to permanent operations with settings, concessions and residual risk explicitly owned.

Non-negotiables

  • Can take the New York seat within three weeks and travel monthly among campus, utility and test locations.
  • Will accept exclusive executive responsibility and continuous escalation duty through energisation and load tests.
  • Brings high-density nonlinear-load power evidence; conventional facility management or utility procurement alone is insufficient.
  • Must disclose current relationships with electrical, UPS, switchgear, engineering and accelerator-infrastructure suppliers.
  1. 49 words maximum. State your earliest New York start and the highest-density electrical recovery you have personally commanded.
  2. 49 words maximum. Describe a power trip that occurred below contracted capacity because workload shape changed the electrical system.
  3. 49 words maximum. Which synchronized measurements are indispensable before changing protection settings after an accelerator-hall trip?
