Management Reporting Redesign Director mandate in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Confidential Management Reporting Redesign Director in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, reporting to the Executive Reporting Sponsor. Consulting FP&A appointment at Director level, a 4-month mandate horizon; four days a week.

The mandate

The consulting assignment will redesign executive management reporting around decisions, material movements and accountable actions. Existing packs are assembled reliably but contain duplicated measures, inconsistent comparison bases and commentary that often explains events after available choices have narrowed. The commission is deliberately limited to report architecture, definitions, prototype, parallel run and transfer.

Four artifacts are contracted: a decision-and-audience map, controlled measure catalogue, prototype reporting suite and production-and-governance handbook. The suite must reconcile to approved financial views, preserve important uncertainty and allow executives to move from headline to cause without receiving an uncontrolled volume of detail.

Milestones land at weeks three, seven, twelve and sixteen. The Reporting Sponsor accepts the decision map; a finance control owner accepts definitions; the executive steering group accepts the prototype after parallel run and the sponsor accepts transfer. A milestone passes only when reconciliation, timeliness, usability and action traceability meet signed criteria.

Client inputs comprise current packs, approved source views, existing definitions, named audience representatives, two prior meeting records and access to a controlled parallel-reporting cycle. Source remediation and production-tool implementation are not included. Any inability to reconcile is recorded as a dependency with an owner and impact, not hidden by presentational adjustment.

What you will own

  • Map each executive forum to the decisions it owns, information lead time, materiality and required follow-through.
  • Catalogue retained measures with definition, source, owner, frequency, comparison basis and explicit decision purpose.
  • Remove or demote duplicated and non-actionable content using documented criteria rather than arbitrary page-count reduction.
  • Design movement bridges and narrative fields that separate fact, cause, risk, response, owner and due date.
  • Prototype an executive suite with a controlled route from enterprise view to material exception and underlying evidence.
  • Conduct one parallel cycle, reconcile outputs and record user decisions, defects, rework time and action completion.
  • Define production controls for cut-off, version, late change, commentary approval, distribution and archive.
  • Transfer pack ownership through a timed dry run in which internal producers complete all controls without consultant intervention.

Candidate qualifications

  • Fourteen or more years in FP&A, executive reporting or performance management, including multiple report-redesign commissions.
  • Before-and-after evidence showing how reporting architecture shortened decision time or changed action quality, with confidential details removed.
  • Expert skill in measure governance, variance bridges, narrative design, materiality, financial reconciliation and information hierarchy.
  • A case where you removed a familiar executive metric because it lacked a decision purpose, including how resistance was handled.
  • Experience testing reporting through live parallel runs with defects and acceptance criteria, not presentation approval alone.
  • Ability to separate source-data remediation from report design and manage unresolved dependencies transparently.
  • Demonstrated transfer discipline through timed production rehearsals and control-owner certification.

Working terms and boundaries

  • The project lasts four months at four days a week and comprises four formal milestones with written acceptors.
  • Scope covers architecture, catalogue, prototype, parallel run and handbook; source correction, tool implementation and ongoing pack production are excluded.
  • The consultant recommends measures and layouts but cannot approve performance conclusions or management actions.
  • Current packs, approved sources, audience access and a parallel cycle are mandatory client inputs maintained in a dependency register.
  • Completion requires a reconciled accepted suite and one error-free internal dry run performed within the agreed production window.
