The mandate

Two hybrid plants failed low-voltage ride-through tests after models, controller settings and as-built equipment diverged. The grid director resigned when utility witness tests were postponed for a third time, putting commercial-operation dates at risk.

The interim must join within three weeks for twelve months through retesting and connection of four priority projects. The position then transfers to an internal principal engineer after a six-week observed leadership period.

Handover requires all four plants passing grid-code and protection tests, validated models matching field response inside agreed tolerance, no open utility critical comments, and the successor independently leading one witnessed commissioning sequence.

The director may reject studies, change test sequence and approve specialist modelling below ₹60 lakh. Controller changes affecting warranties, equipment spend above ₹2 crore and deviation requests to grid codes require project-committee approval; system operators alone grant energisation.

Energy trading, project finance and routine asset maintenance are excluded. The mandate addresses model-to-field compliance and connection evidence for the named renewable assets.

Repeated test failure exposed weak ownership across consultant studies, OEM controls and field commissioning. Leadership exit left project teams pursuing different technical explanations. A finite grid integrator will establish one evidence chain and prepare an internal engineer to inherit the discipline.

What you will own

  • Reconcile plant models, equipment settings, protection logic, SCADA and as-built single-line evidence.
  • Decide the corrective study and field-test sequence for each failed grid-code requirement.
  • Establish controller and model configuration control across OEMs, consultants and site teams.
  • Approve witnessed-test protocols covering ride-through, reactive capability, frequency response and protection.
  • Resolve utility comments with dated technical evidence and clear owner accountability.
  • Build a reusable connection dossier and readiness gate for future renewable projects.
  • Qualify the internal successor through one complete utility-witnessed commissioning sequence.

Candidate qualifications

  • Eighteen-plus years in power systems, grid connection or renewable commissioning across Indian networks.
  • Led recovery after failed grid-code, protection or power-plant-controller testing.
  • Deep command of load flow, dynamic models, harmonic studies, ride-through and reactive-power control.
  • Experience correlating simulation models with field measurements and controller configuration.
  • Credibility with state and central transmission utilities, OEMs and independent engineers.
  • Ability to prepare a strong technical successor for regulator- and utility-facing leadership.

Non-negotiables

  • Available in Bengaluru within three weeks and for intensive project-site travel.
  • No current interest in OEMs or modelling consultants involved in the failed tests.
  • Will not request a grid-code deviation before feasible technical remedies are exhausted.
