Vice President, Multi-GAAP Regional Controllership mandate in Vancouver, Canada

Confidential Vice President, Multi-GAAP Regional Controllership in Vancouver, Canada, reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer. Permanent Finance & Accounting appointment at Vice President level, an ongoing appointment; full time.

The mandate

The Vice President will permanently lead regional accounting where local reporting requirements and group policy demand both autonomy and disciplined reconciliation. The remit covers controllership quality, statutory-to-group bridges, significant judgments, close evidence and the development of senior country controllers. It does not convert the region into a central preparation hub.

The first one hundred days will establish an evidence-led risk map: reporting bases, statutory calendars, bridge adjustments, aging reconciliations, late judgment patterns and capability concentration. The VP will use this to agree which matters can be corrected locally, which require regional consistency and which need group policy intervention.

Regional governance must recognise that identical accounting language can mask different statutory facts, while different local terminology may describe the same economic treatment. The VP will require comparisons to be built from decisive facts and reporting consequences, preventing superficial standardisation from weakening legal or accounting accuracy.

Authority includes setting regional accounting expectations, challenging local conclusions, returning unsupported submissions, reallocating review attention and approving delegated interpretations. Local statutory signatories retain legal responsibilities and the Chief Accounting Officer retains reserved group decisions. Tax, forecasts and commercial performance remain outside accounting authority.

At six months, the highest-risk bridge and reconciliation issues should have accountable plans and controller forums should focus on decisions rather than status recital. At twelve months, late corrections and undocumented local exceptions should decline, while local controllers demonstrate earlier escalation and greater independence in defending conclusions.

The enduring task is leadership depth. The VP will establish peer review across jurisdictions, rotate complex cases and identify successors for both regional and major local roles. Success means local accountability becomes stronger under common principles, not weaker through automatic escalation.

What you will own

  • Create a regional accounting risk map combining materiality, judgment, evidence quality, timing and capability concentration.
  • Set minimum close, reconciliation, bridge and judgment-paper standards across local reporting bases.
  • Challenge and return unsupported local conclusions while respecting statutory signatory accountability.
  • Convene peer reviews for comparable fact patterns and route genuine policy conflicts to group authority.
  • Direct remediation of recurring local-to-group adjustments at their earliest controllable source.
  • Report regional accounting quality through late corrections, aged evidence gaps and exception recurrence.
  • Develop country controllers through delegated cases, cross-border review and governance exposure.
  • Maintain clear boundaries with tax, planning, commercial decisions and independent assurance.

Candidate qualifications

  • Demonstrate senior multi-country controllership across local statutory and group reporting requirements.
  • Describe a local conclusion you challenged without undermining the statutory officer’s accountability.
  • Show how you eliminated a recurring local-to-group adjustment at source.
  • Evidence judgment over multiple GAAP bridges, close, reconciliations and external reporting.
  • Provide an example of peer review improving consistency without suppressing jurisdiction-specific differences.
  • Quantify a reporting-quality improvement beyond simple timetable completion.
  • Show succession outcomes among senior country or regional controllers.

Working terms and boundaries

  • This permanent full-time appointment carries delegated regional accounting authority and a first-year transformation arc.
  • Local signatories keep legal duties; reserved group conclusions stay with the Chief Accounting Officer.
  • Incentives reward source correction, early escalation and leadership depth, not centralisation of local work.
  • Hybrid attendance includes targeted jurisdiction visits and concentrated presence during key reporting reviews.
  • Prior assurance or advisory relationships and financial interests require conflict clearance.
