Subsurface-Digital Research GCC Scale Leader

The mandate

The India GCC maintains subsurface workflows and contributes to research products approaching operational use, but asset leaders have historically viewed it as software support rather than inviting its scientists into uncertainty arbitration and interpretation challenges.

The interim will begin in Houston within three weeks and serve for sixteen months, spending regular periods with India and selected asset teams. Recruitment of a permanent research-capability leader begins after two digital methods survive blind asset replay and one informs a live concept selection, expected around month nine. The successor will chair an uncertainty challenge and deployment gate during six weeks of overlap.

Handover requires four methods to connect data conditioning, geological assumptions, analytical uncertainty, interpretation alternatives and defined asset decisions; India scientific leads must hold formal challenge rights. Two blind replays and three deployment gates must be completed with documented dissent. The successor receives research portfolios, asset feedback, technical-assurance findings, source-expert dependencies and talent succession actions.

The interim may stop deployment of a digital method, require independent reinterpretation, redirect research specialists, retire an unsupported prototype and commit up to USD 14 million within the approved portfolio. Well execution, reserves reporting, acreage acquisition, field-development sanction and final subsurface accountability remain with authorised asset officers. India researchers may formally reject unsuitable data or use conditions.

Enterprise data-platform remediation, seismic acquisition, high-performance-compute procurement, routine asset staffing and scientific areas outside the four methods remain out of scope. The mandate covers research-to-asset transfer, interpretation challenge, evidence and uncertainty standards, India leadership maturity and permanent succession. It does not transfer statutory or accountable asset decisions to a research centre.

Why this seat is open

The drilling outcome made a longstanding status problem financially material, and the executive responsible for capability integration departed. Asset teams own decisions but have underused dissent from India scientists, while research teams lack leverage to require appropriate application. Temporary technical leadership can exercise challenge across real assets and leave an accepted scientific operating model.

• Reconstruct the disputed interpretation across seismic conditioning, analogue choice, pressure evidence, uncertainty weighting and well decision.
• Define complete research methods with intended use, data fitness, assumptions, alternatives, limitations and accountable asset interface.
• Establish India scientific challenge rights without transferring reserves, well or investment accountability from asset teams.
• Run blind replays and adversarial reviews involving sparse data, conflicting disciplines and persuasive but weak analogues.
• Build principal scientists and research-product leaders with field exposure, external standing and two-deep succession.
• Sequence deployment and source-expert withdrawal around reproduced evidence, user competence and observed asset decisions.
• Transfer method dossiers, dissent records, deployment history, talent actions and unresolved technical risks to permanent leadership.

• Held senior subsurface digital or computational geoscience authority across exploration, development and asset deployment decisions.
• Recovered an interpretation process after geological uncertainty or data fitness was obscured by a polished analytical workflow.
• Built India scientists into global technical-assurance and asset-challenge forums rather than workflow support roles.
• Distinguished research-method ownership from accountable reserves, well, field-development and investment decisions.
• Closed weak prototypes and redirected scarce researchers despite strong sponsorship or technically impressive demonstrations.
• Handed a digital-science portfolio to permanent leadership after blind replay, deployment and disputed interpretation reviews.
