A precision-agriculture venture needs an executable service model for scaling seasonal drone applications through local operators without losing agronomic control, aircraft utilisation, farmer trust or regulatory discipline.
The mandate
The venture can win farmer demand centrally, but its company-owned flight teams cannot reach scattered fields during narrow application windows. A proposed local-operator model increases reach while introducing inconsistent agronomy, pilot competence, aircraft care, chemical custody, weather judgment and farmer remedy. Early pilots compared hectares flown rather than crop outcome or safe execution. The defined problem is to design a distributed service network that scales seasonal capacity while keeping non-delegable technical, safety and customer standards visible.
The named deliverable is an agricultural-drone service-network blueprint covering territory design, operator selection, training and certification, demand aggregation, agronomic prescription handoff, mission release, chemical custody, battery and spare support, maintenance, flight evidence, farmer acceptance, incident escalation, payment and renewal. It will include operator economics, central-versus-local decision rights, minimum systems, insurance dependencies, quality sampling, seasonal capacity models and a staged country rollout.
Four milestones govern the five months. By week four, milestone one reconstructs twenty missions across four field clusters and reconciles margin, delay, rework and outcome evidence. Week nine delivers operator archetypes, control options and crop-season demand scenarios. Week fifteen concludes field and tabletop tests for rain interruption, aircraft grounding, chemical mismatch, connectivity loss and disputed coverage. At week twenty, the final milestone supplies the approved model, partner pack, investment case, mobilisation backlog and expansion decision paper.
Acceptance rests with the chief executive and Expansion Committee, with accountable agronomy, aviation and safety specialists approving their professional boundaries. The work is accepted only when two prospective operators can plan and close selected missions using the model; flight, application and farmer evidence reconcile; unit economics include seasonal idle time and support; and each tested exception reaches a named decision maker within its clock. Country differences must be explicit, not hidden behind a universal franchise manual.
The client provides mission logs, aircraft and battery data, prescriptions, crop calendars, incident records, farmer feedback, pricing, operator proposals, insurance and regulatory counsel, plus controlled access to four clusters. Consultants will not fly missions, prescribe treatments, certify pilots, handle chemicals, obtain permits, select live operators or warrant crop outcomes. Aircraft procurement, platform engineering and rollout implementation are outside scope; unavailable outcome evidence will be recorded as a launch condition.
Why this is external work
Flight, agronomy and commercial teams each optimise a different unit, and founder relationships make it difficult to test whether current partners should qualify. The company has never scaled through independently owned operators across seasons and jurisdictions. External design provides comparative distributed-service discipline, field testing and a bounded launch decision while management retains all partner, technical and country authority.
What you will own

- Specify qualification, assurance, data, escalation and renewal requirements for the operator partner pack.
- Deliver the staged rollout, mobilisation backlog, investment case and country conditions requiring executive decisions.
Candidate qualifications
- Has designed distributed field-service, franchise or operator networks involving regulated equipment and seasonal demand.
- Can evidence a scale model changed after field economics exposed costs hidden by headline utilisation or territory assumptions.
- Understands drone operations, agronomic handoffs, maintenance, battery logistics, weather constraints and farmer service recovery.
- Has built partner qualification and assurance without transferring professional accountability to a commercial scorecard.
- Can model capacity at crop-window and territory level rather than extrapolating annual hectares from pilot weeks.
- Brings operational experience in African agricultural markets and can distinguish infrastructure constraints across countries.
