The mandate
The defined problem is a return flow in which recovery routes are selected without a consistent relationship between unit condition, available capacity and the decision gates that authorise movement. The consultant will deliver a Returned-Equipment Recovery Design Pack, establishing flow options, capacity logic and risk gates. The perimeter is selected technical returns, not a redesign of the enterprise supply-chain network.
The project starts on 19 October 2026 for six months at three days weekly. Bengaluru design sessions and planned India operating visits establish the actual flow; remote analysis builds the register and capacity scenarios. The deliverable comprises a route-to-disposition map, queue and capacity model, decision-gate rules and a selected-return pilot with documented ownership.
Milestone one on 18 December 2026 provides the observed flow baseline, unit classifications and accepted blockage taxonomy. Milestone two, due 18 February 2027, is a tested recovery-route design and capacity scenario model with functional approval of gates. Milestone three on 18 April 2027 includes the pilot evidence, corrected operating guide and a retained-PMO replay using units not selected for the original model exercise.
The sponsor and group manager accept each milestone, with quality and repair owners confirming their decision boundaries. The model must reconcile to observed work-in-progress, identify where specialist capacity limits the route and preserve mandatory disposition approvals. Pilot acceptance requires traceable decisions and usable routing evidence, not a guaranteed lead-time reduction under every future return mix.
The sponsor provides return histories, unit-status data, observed process access and named functional reviewers. The consultant does not certify units, renegotiate warranties, choose transport suppliers or execute a broad systems implementation. New product families or cross-border compliance redesign require approved change control. The project ends on accepted design, pilot and transfer, leaving daily routing and customer promises with retained operations.
What you will own
- Observe the agreed return routes and document actual decision points, waiting states and rework loops rather than reproducing the formal procedure as the baseline.
- Classify units by condition, recovery option and required technical evidence, with approval gates that preserve specialist disposition and commercial obligations.
- Build a capacity model using observed processing and variability, separating nominal throughput from bottlenecks caused by skills, approvals or repeated repair.
- Compare recovery-route options on time, effort and risk, documenting which choices require functional approval instead of allowing the model to select them automatically.
- Pilot the design on a representative return cohort, recording gate compliance and unexpected flow behaviour before recommending wider operating use.
- Transfer the model, route rules and blockage taxonomy through retained-PMO replay on new units, correcting usability issues and assigning ownership of residual design limitations.
Candidate qualifications
- Evidence eighteen or more years in supply-chain programme or reverse-logistics work with group-manager or equivalent execution-governance experience. Present a flow design or recovery improvement you personally developed, the bottleneck discovered through observation and the accepted operating change. A general logistics background without technical-return decision depth is insufficient.
- Show practical knowledge of semiconductor equipment or similarly complex technical recovery, including unit condition, repair readiness and quality disposition. Explain a case where route selection required evidence beyond transport speed, and how you preserved customer, engineering and compliance limits in the design.
- Bring quantitative capacity and queue-analysis capability supported by a model reconciled to actual work-in-progress. Describe how variability, approval delay or repeat rework changed the result and how you tested assumptions with functional owners. Lean or Six Sigma training should be reflected in specific observed and validated flow decisions.
- Prove fixed-fee delivery with clear pilot acceptance, stakeholder participation and retained-user transfer. Supply an anonymised operating guide or replay example, explaining how you handled new product scope and incomplete status data. The consultant must leave daily execution with the PMO and avoid implying authority to certify equipment, commit customer delivery or redesign all logistics systems.
