Airline Unit-Load-Device Pool Recovery Leader — Hub Operations

Airline Unit-Load-Device Pool Recovery Leader mandate in Madrid, Spain · Airline Unit-Load-Device Logistics

A Madrid airline needs a nine-month leader after station imbalance, damaged equipment and weak interline returns left build-ready unit-load devices unavailable despite a sufficient global fleet.

The mandate

The airline owns and leases enough ULDs on paper, but a flight build requires more than an empty box or pallet at the right airport. Each serial must have the correct aircraft contour, serviceable structure, approved net and restraint configuration, current engineering release and accepted airline, handler or interline custody. Import warehouses retain units, damaged equipment circulates outside quarantine and interline transfers age without acknowledgement. Emergency leasing rises while hubs still lack airworthy, build-compatible equipment for the next aircraft bank.

The interim begins within two weeks for nine months, assuming airline-wide pool authority through summer schedules, two cargo peaks and permanent succession. The first thirty days will establish location, owner, contour, airworthiness and build-ready truth for priority equipment. Recruitment starts in month four; the successor shadows one network rebalance and independently commands two unannounced station shortages before handover.

Handover requires persistent ULD identity, physical location, custodian, ownership or lease, aircraft compatibility, contour, net and restraint status, damage quarantine, engineering release, repair route, interline transfer, station minimum, repositioning decision and off-pool cost. Completion is demonstrated when the successor protects a peak bank through aircraft substitution, remote-station imbalance and repair capacity loss without interim assistance.

The leader may reserve build-ready equipment, change station minimums, order authorised repositioning, recover overdue interline units, quarantine visibly damaged assets, redirect approved repair capacity, suspend unreliable agent custody and release €86 million of recovery spend. Engineering airworthiness, aircraft load planning, cargo acceptance, flight dispatch, lease amendment, claim settlement and asset write-off above delegation remain with qualified and executive owners.

Aircraft configuration, weight-and-balance, engineering approval, flight dispatch, cargo build instruction, dangerous-goods acceptance, permanent fleet acquisition, tax treatment and replacement of the ULD platform are outside scope. The interim must not return damaged equipment to circulation, change a serial record to force availability, use another carrier’s unit without accepted custody or pressure load control to accept an incompatible contour.

Why this seat is open

The former pool director departed after audit showed that global counts included ULDs in repair, under interline dispute or incompatible with the aircraft contour due to operate. This is not generic container circulation: an asset becomes available only when serial identity, restraint condition, airworthiness release, custodian and load-plan fit converge at one station. Temporary authority is needed before peak schedules while the airline recruits a permanent flight-equipment operator.

What you will own

  • Reconstruct the pool by ULD identifier, type, contour, owner or lessor, physical station, custodian, condition, engineering state, flight demand and lease clock.
  • Set station minimums and hub reserves using aircraft schedule, cargo profile, build compatibility, turnaround time and recoverable inbound empties.
  • Govern airline, handler and interline custody through transfer acknowledgement, overdue ageing, escalation, demurrage, loss and accepted return evidence.
  • Stop damaged or suspect containers, pallets and nets from re-entering build-ready counts until authorised inspection and release are recorded.
  • Direct empty repositioning across belly, freighter and surface options while exposing payload displacement, handling cost, lease exposure and next-station consequence.
  • Exercise six disruptions involving aircraft swap, station imbalance, handler outage, repair backlog, missing interline unit and sudden temperature-container demand.
  • Transfer authority after the successor leads a network rebalance and independently protects a peak build through compound station and repair failure.

Candidate qualifications

  • Held executive responsibility for a multi-station airline ULD pool spanning cargo, passenger baggage, handlers and interline partners.
  • Recovered build-ready availability by reconciling physical location, custodian, contour, condition, airworthiness and lease status.
  • Managed containers, pallets, nets and temperature-capable equipment through imbalance, damage, repair and peak repositioning.
  • Worked with engineering and load control without making airworthiness, weight-and-balance, cargo-acceptance or flight-dispatch decisions.
  • Reduced off-pool lease and demurrage while protecting aircraft-build readiness rather than optimising nominal asset utilisation.
  • Handed international ULD pool command to permanent leadership through live peak and deliberately compounded station, handler and repair failures.

Non-negotiables

  • Available in Madrid within two weeks for twelve station residencies and round-the-clock peak-bank escalation.
  • Direct airline ULD pool accountability is required; warehouse equipment control or asset analytics alone is insufficient.
  • Will disclose airlines, handlers, interline partners, lessors, repair shops, tracking vendors, forwarders and insurers.
  • Will not certify airworthiness, approve load plans, dispatch flights, conceal damage or use disputed equipment without custody acceptance.
  1. 49 words maximum. Describe a ULD fleet that appeared sufficient until build-ready condition and custody were tested.
  2. 49 words maximum. How would you rebalance a station without displacing more valuable aircraft payload?
  3. 49 words maximum. State your Madrid availability and largest multi-station ULD pool commanded.
