What to write. How to build it.
Build for executive teams, boards, technology partners and transformation sponsors. The examples below are fictional demonstrations. Write your own account using facts and outcomes you are authorised to publish.
01 / Write a CIO leadership headline
Name the value you create and the kind of challenge you lead. Keep it to one clear sentence; let the evidence elsewhere substantiate it.
Connecting technology investment to enterprise outcomes.
Fictional example · Replace it with your own positioning.
02 / Structure your executive biography
Start with your current remit and the enterprise problems you solve. Add two career chapters that explain your judgement. Finish with your leadership approach and the conversations you welcome. Use your real scope and dates.
I connect enterprise technology decisions with the way an organisation serves customers, manages risk and gets work done. My experience spans systems modernisation, information governance and the development of technology operating models that business leaders can understand and support. I see the CIO's role as a bridge between long-lived architecture and immediate business needs. Progress requires a clear view of dependencies, a realistic transition path and a willingness to make difficult choices about the legacy estate. It also requires technology teams that listen well and business teams that share ownership of the change. My leadership centres on trust, practical sequencing and transparency. I want the organisation to know what its technology enables, what it depends on and where resilience needs attention.
Fictional biography · A structural example, not a claim about you.
03 / Build a convincing CIO case study
Connect one technology programme to a business capability, transition decision and verified adoption or resilience outcome; omit sensitive architecture details.
- Context: what was happening and why it mattered.
- Your remit: what you owned and where you influenced others.
- Decision: the alternatives and the trade-off you made.
- Evidence: approved outcomes, dates, units and attribution limits.
- Reflection: what you learned and would apply again.
Never invent a metric. Use a precise qualitative outcome when a number cannot be shared.
04 / Plan your expertise and leadership journal
Anchor each expertise area in an example: digital transformation, cyber resilience, enterprise architecture, data governance. Signature and Royale include a journal; Royale also includes speaking and media.
- • Modernisation begins with a business capability
- • Resilience is a cross-functional rehearsal
- • Technology adoption has an operating owner
For each topic, state a decision your audience faces, explain your point of view and offer a practical question they can use. Publish original, reviewed material.
