Company: Confidential listed glass-container manufacturer
Board base: Vadodara, Gujarat
Sector: Glass packaging for food, beverages, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics
Appointment: Independent Director, Non-Executive
Intended committees: Risk, Safety & Capital Projects Committee Chair; member, Audit Committee
Time commitment: 27–34 days annually, including furnace and customer-quality reviews
Application deadline: 6 October 2026
Expected appointment: January 2027
Company context
The company operates continuous glass furnaces and high-speed forming lines producing containers for regulated and consumer end markets. Furnace campaigns require large, infrequent rebuild capital; operations are energy-intensive and cannot be stopped casually. Product integrity depends on raw materials, furnace stability, mould condition, inspection and customer-line performance.
Market hint: A western and central India footprint, pharmaceutical amber glass, beverage containers and premium cosmetic formats may resemble several container-glass producers. Furnace count and anchor customers are omitted.
Board mandate
The appointee will govern long-cycle furnace capital, product safety and decarbonisation without allowing utilisation pressure to defer integrity or customer protection.
Strategic priorities
- Establish furnace-life and rebuild governance through condition, refractory wear, energy, pull rate, quality, campaign risk and cash scenarios.
- Track critical product defects including checks, cracks, inclusions, dimensions, coating, thermal shock and contamination by line, mould, customer and lot.
- Define customer notification, quarantine and recall thresholds for food, beverage, pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications.
- Review cullet quality, raw-material chemistry, batch traceability, supplier concentration and contamination control.
- Govern high-temperature, molten-glass, gas, oxygen, pressure, lifting, silica, fire and contractor critical controls.
- Re-underwrite energy strategy across gas, electricity, alternative fuels, electric boosting, heat recovery and carbon cost.
- Assess lightweighting, recycled content and returnable packaging against strength, line performance, collection infrastructure and claim evidence.
- Stage-gate new lines, mould investment and premium formats through customer qualification, conversion cost, yield, complexity and lifecycle return.
- Review customer concentration, take-or-pay, price escalation, mould ownership, inventory and claims within contract economics.
- Strengthen maintenance, spares and technical succession for continuous-process operations.
Decisions expected at Board level
- Whether to reduce furnace pull or stop a line when defect risk rises during peak demand.
- Whether a furnace rebuild should advance despite near-term earnings impact.
- Whether lightweight or high-cullet claims are supported by quality and collection evidence.
- Whether customer-specific mould and capacity earn adequate lifecycle return.
- Whether an alternative-fuel investment creates reliable decarbonisation or technology lock-in.
Candidate profile
Essential: Former glass, packaging, metals, ceramics, chemicals or continuous-process CEO/COO/technical leader; major shutdown and capital judgement; product integrity and high-temperature safety; customer qualification and energy economics.
Preferred: pharmaceutical or food-contact packaging, furnace rebuilds, circularity, industrial decarbonisation, Audit or Risk Committee chairing.
Eligibility and conflicts
Active IICA Databank inclusion and applicable test/exemption evidence are mandatory. Candidates must disclose relationships with major customers, cullet and raw-material suppliers, furnace/EPC vendors, energy providers, certification bodies, auditors and competitors.
First-year outcomes
- Board-approved furnace campaign and rebuild plan.
- Defect escalation linked to quarantine, customer action and root-cause closure.
- Verified safety controls for continuous high-temperature operations.
- Capital and energy transition based on risk-adjusted lifecycle economics.
- Stronger technical and maintenance succession.
