Understand the commitment behind the customer's interpretation

My contribution to a board

I would help directors understand how an operating observation becomes a customer commitment. My experience includes a duration detached from its trial conditions, a product comparison missing useful payload and a cost proposition dependent on future returns. Those examples are relevant to oversight because a commercially attractive explanation can ask evidence to support more than it actually establishes. I would bring questions about the purchaser's reasonable interpretation, the assumptions behind the business case and the work still required before a broader commitment is justified. I would not treat marketing experience as authority over technical qualification, medicine disposition or the whole enterprise's financial judgement. Having presented to directors without serving as one, I would need to learn collective oversight alongside colleagues with complementary expertise. My intended contribution is a clearer connection between management's proposition and the operating facts on which it depends.

Judgement in practice

01

Owning a claim that reached print before its limits were clear

I approved a forty-eight-hour brochure statement based on a particular constant-ambient trial. We withdrew 9,000 copies before circulation, wrote off ₹28 lakh and delayed the launch by six weeks after the technical objection. The correction did not erase my initial responsibility. In oversight, I would ask how a significant proposition preserves the conditions of its evidence and who can challenge it after senior approval. Directors need not edit every brochure, but they should understand whether the process allows a commercial deadline or sunk expense to expand a claim. The case concerns a pre-circulation marketing decision, not an invented medicine shipment, clinical event or universal thermal conclusion.

02

Separating completed dispatches from a favourable planning assumption

A ₹4,800 container allocated over twenty assumed dispatches contributed ₹240 each; the pilot's twelve completed dispatches contributed ₹400. Adding the illustrated return and cleaning-and-inspection amounts produced ₹510 and ₹670 respectively. We removed the general cost-advantage statement while retaining ₹46 lakh of pilot expenditure. I would ask a board which future events make a unit-economic proposition work and what experience supports them. The observed period is not a universal lifetime, and a separate ₹620 single-use quote lacked demonstrated equivalence. The oversight contribution is to clarify the business case without making a scenario appear achieved or asking directors to take over individual quotation decisions.

03

Keeping a return observation separate from an environmental conclusion

Of 160 dispatched containers, 120 returned; ninety-six were suitable for another use and twenty-four were retired, with forty still unreturned. Eighty per cent of returns passing inspection did not establish an eighty-per-cent environmental improvement. We stopped the draft statement before publication and supported ₹68 lakh of return tracing. I would ask whether the proposed public claim preserves what the measure actually counts. A tracing programme can improve visibility without itself proving a carbon benefit. The board-level question is how management obtains appropriate evidence for consequential assertions, while leaving technical assessment and operating work with the people qualified to perform them.

My first year on a board

I would start by learning the receiving company's customers, economics, operating obligations and sources of risk beyond the marketing account. Through an agreed induction, I would follow a small number of consequential propositions from the supporting evidence into the commitments directors are asked to oversee. I would listen to finance, operations, technical and people leaders as well as the commercial team, so that familiar marketing questions did not dominate my understanding of the enterprise. I would study the sector requirements relevant to the proposed role with appropriate advisers and ask the chair for feedback on the usefulness of my interventions. My aim would be to contribute questions that clarify the choice and its consequences without turning the board into a campaign-review meeting. A useful first year should broaden my judgement, expose assumptions I brought from packaging and help me work effectively within collective responsibility rather than rely on the confidence of my previous executive role.

Conflicts and their management

I would disclose my employment and employee-trust interest before accepting confidential papers, together with relevant relationships involving Tavqeshi's investor, distributors, customers, suppliers and advisers. The receiving company would need qualified review of independence, eligibility and applicable committee or directorship limits under its company-law and listing context. I would obtain employer consent and assess whether any exclusions required to manage a relationship would still leave room for a meaningful contribution. Commercial terms, technical records and customer evidence from my current work would remain protected. Disclosure alone would not make every overlap acceptable, and the review would need to continue as relationships changed. I would decline an appointment where recurring conflicts or insufficient time prevented me from exercising the attention expected of the whole board. The practical question is whether I can contribute responsibly to this particular enterprise, not whether an otherwise attractive title can be added to a profile.

My independence statement

I am a beneficiary of Tavqeshi's employee trust, which owns 45%, without a direct shareholding. My employment, trust interest and relationships through customers, distributors and suppliers need review for any proposed appointment. The absence of a current seat does not settle independence.

The seat I am pursuing

I would consider one first outside appointment in an industrial-products or business-services enterprise with a clear need for commercial judgement grounded in operations. Risk or strategy-committee membership might be relevant after the company assesses its needs and the applicable requirements. I do not claim committee-chair readiness from my CMO role or assessment pass. Twenty-five days is provisional and must accommodate induction, reading, meetings, travel and exceptional demands alongside my executive responsibilities. I would value an experienced chair and complementary financial, legal, technical and people expertise. The fictional January registration and August proficiency-assessment pass describe preparation; they do not establish suitability for every role. Before proceeding, I would want the contribution, conflicts and workload to be understood well enough that the appointment served the enterprise rather than simply extending the public description of my career.

IICA Independent Directors’ Databank: Proficiency assessment passed

This fictional preparation record shows IICA registration in January 2026 and a proficiency-assessment pass in August 2026. It claims no exemption. Appointment-specific eligibility, independence and relevant company-law or listing requirements remain matters for qualified review.
