The weeks a production budget cannot explain by itself
I discuss how a programme's total fee and budget can conceal the funding required between commitments and customer receipts. The session follows a fictional commission through its dated production plan, a proposed change in payment milestones and the price of obtaining that change. I ask participants to consider what evidence the customer needs before paying earlier, what flexibility the producer requires and which costs remain outside the opening margin. The purpose is to give creative and finance colleagues a shared language for a specific choice, without suggesting that a cash schedule can settle questions of programme quality. I also cover the review after delivery: actual financing costs, accepted variations and the reasons a receipt arrived later than planned. The discussion is intended for teams who already understand their own production process and want to improve the account they bring to management or a board. It uses illustrative circumstances rather than confidential contracts or a prescribed financing method.
