Ask what the commercial account invites the customer to rely on
A specialist service can be commercially attractive because it contributes to an outcome larger than itself. In games-localisation work, the contribution appears inside a finished experience that the studio owns and directs. The enterprise needs to explain why its work matters without allowing that context to imply wider responsibility than it carried. My prospective board contribution is to examine the relationship between the capability, the commercial description and the customer commitment. Directors should be able to understand what management's evidence supports and where the buyer might be encouraged to infer something the operating team cannot provide.
My experience of board discussions is as the executive presenting marketing decisions. I have not held a statutory seat or served as a committee member. A non-executive role would require a different discipline: learning the whole enterprise, working through the chair and contributing to collective judgement rather than extending my marketing remit into another company. I would need the financial, operating and professional expertise of other directors. Familiarity with propositions can improve the questions asked, but it cannot establish every technical capability, contractual implication or production approval that a service business needs to manage.
The six-language error gives me a concrete example of the responsibility behind a claim. I approved a presentation that implied voice coverage across six languages when the offer covered text in six and voice in two. Correcting it cost ₹28 lakh and removed two prospects representing ₹47 lakh of forecast bookings. The governance question is not whether directors should inspect every brochure. It is whether management has a credible way to connect a combined capability statement to the work available and whether it reports the consequence of correction honestly. Forecast pipeline and earned revenue must remain separate in that account.
The portfolio review adds the distinction between contribution and ownership. Four of twelve entries implied whole-game development and were corrected to describe localisation work. Permission to publish assets remained a separate question, with clearly labelled demonstrations used where appropriate permission was absent. A board can ask who owns the evidence and approval route without choosing the image or rewriting the caption. It can also ask whether a recognisable finished product is being used to lend the enterprise a reputation for work it did not perform. The commercial value of a contribution should be explained directly rather than depend on that ambiguity.
The campaign-timing case concerns the assumptions behind demand. Eighteen selected enquiries showed twelve projects beyond the relevant language-scope choice and six still early enough to consider the work. I redirected ₹38 lakh of prospective authority into earlier production conversations. The observation supported a design decision, not a claim of market-wide prevalence or improved conversion. Directors should see both the purpose of the new programme and its opportunity cost. They can ask whether measures match the buying decision management seeks to influence while leaving campaign and account execution with the responsible team.
My continuing executive role brings relationships that need specific consideration before any outside appointment. Studios, suppliers, service partners, competing enterprises and investors may create conflicts. I have no personal equity and no current statutory seats, but those facts do not settle independence for another company. I would provide current disclosures, use the applicable governance processes and recognise that some relationships may make a seat unsuitable. Confidential game assets, voice material and commercial plans would not become information I could share in another boardroom. The transferable contribution is judgement about evidence and responsibility, not access to an employer's or customer's protected material.
IICA registration dates from May 2026, with the proficiency assessment unfinished and no exemption claimed. Nineteen annual days is provisional and must be tested against preparation, travel and periods of urgent work. I do not claim readiness to chair a statutory committee from this illustrative profile. I would seek a manageable first contribution with suitable induction and complementary skills around the table. The board should value a candid account of unsuitable demand and unsupported implications, rather than expect my participation to make a proposition appear stronger. That environment would let commercial ambition be examined alongside the capability and responsibility needed to fulfil it.
On governance
A studio buying language work should not have to decode a capability claim after its production plan depends on it. I want our proposition to explain which parts of the player experience we work on, what the studio must provide and which decisions remain elsewhere. My own six-language brochure blurred text and voice coverage. Correcting it made the offering narrower, but gave the buyer a proposition they could actually evaluate.

I would consider a first board contribution where specialist services need a clear relationship between capability and customer promise. I have executive presentation experience, no statutory seat and unfinished assessment preparation; nineteen days is a provisional annual estimate for outside responsibilities.
