The buyer needed less than the seller's lot

Selling less than the whole surplus lot can serve a buyer's project, but the product must also account for handling, seller consent and the material that remains.

A saved lot should not sound like reserved stock

The product must make clear when a buyer is remembering an offer, requesting a commitment or receiving a seller-confirmed hold. Those stages have different consequences for a project.

A similar material still needs somebody to approve the change

Discovery can help a buyer find another offer when stock disappears. The product should reduce the work around specification review while preserving the judgement that review requires.

The buyer needed less than the seller's lot

I supported whole-lot selling because it made surplus clearance easy to explain. The seller wanted the stock gone, and the product offered one quantity with one decision. Buyers often had a different task. They wanted enough material for a particular project, not responsibility for the remainder of somebody else's order. Our research did not make either side unreasonable. It made the product choice more specific: where could we support a partial lot, what extra work would it create and who would still own the stock left behind?

I am Rafiq Lemzethi, fictional CPO of Veqmari Finish Exchange in Jaipur. We connect buyers and sellers of unused surplus tiles and selected non-structural interior finishes. The company has 210 employees and recorded ₹48 crore FY 26 service revenue. Completed merchandise value of ₹290 crore describes transactions through the marketplace, not our own revenue. My 34 product colleagues work through four leads within ₹7.2 crore FY 2026–27 expense and a separate ₹1.6 crore discovery programme.

My early catalogue work taught me to describe what was offered. Seller services taught me how easily a description becomes a promise. Product leadership now asks me to shape the moment at which interest becomes a request, a request becomes a confirmed hold and a proposed alternative becomes something the buyer's qualified advisers must consider. A saved item is not necessarily reserved stock. A similar tile is not automatically an acceptable substitute. The interface should make those differences easier to understand before a project depends on them.

The partial-lot pilot retained the remainder

Forty reviewed buyer proposals included 26 seeking part of a lot and 14 seeking the whole. A ₹58 lakh programme supported eight participating lots containing 2,400 square metres. At cutoff,1,640 had sold and 760 remained listed; no universal preference or avoided-waste outcome was inferred.

Saving and reserving needed different actions

In 60 task sessions,39 participants expected the saved-lot action to hold stock and 21 understood it as a shortlist. A ₹31 lakh redesign separated saving, requesting and seller-confirmed holds. Fifty later requests produced 34 confirmations,10 declines and 6 pending accounts, not 50 sales.

Similarity did not authorise substitution

Among 120 suggested alternatives,68 required qualified specification review,34 had clear stated differences and 18 lacked necessary records. We spent ₹49 lakh removing automatic replacement from the proposition. No suggestion was treated as technical approval.

Current focus

Making lot selection and transaction states reflect the responsibilities of sellers, buyers and their professional advisers, with the costs of a more precise service kept visible.
