Chief Strategy Officer Australia

How to begin a useful conversation with me

A mid-sized wine company keeps its independence by deciding in advance which volume, which shelf and which market it can afford to lose.

I find three sorts of approach worth a prompt reply. The first comes from a chair, nomination committee or search partner with a non-executive seat at an Australian exporter or branded food business outside alcohol. If that is you, please tell me the company, the committees, the meeting calendar and any trading link with Tarrowin, the wine trade or the large supermarket groups, so that I can check for conflicts before we speak. The second comes from strategy and commercial executives at other suppliers who want to compare notes on exclusive labels, export concentration or the testing of retailer advertising. The third is an invitation to speak to agribusiness, export or retail audiences, where I prefer a discussion to a presentation.

I am not the right person for questions about Tarrowin's results, its share price, pending transactions or our negotiations with particular retailers, and I will not comment on other companies' trade terms. Sales enquiries and requests to stock our wines belong with our commercial team. I am not considering executive roles elsewhere at present. I read every message sent through this site and usually reply within ten days.
