Interpreting operating performance6 min read

The lower electricity total needed a better explanation

A lower consumption total is an observation. Explaining an efficiency result requires a comparison that accounts for the service and the conditions under which it was supplied.

A plant result becomes useful when the account explains what changed for the customer, what the operator actually controlled and which conclusion the evidence still cannot support.

The heat source was available; the year-round customer was not

An investment case for recovered heat needs a supported account of its use. Potential supply and useful demand belong in the same decision, with the cost of learning retained.

An acknowledged call is not the whole service response

A planned contact exercise can reveal a gap without proving field readiness. Management should name the stage tested and preserve the responsibilities that sit beyond it.

The lower electricity total needed a better explanation

I am Leela Drezqani, COO of the fictional Vezquri Utility Services in Raipur. I once presented a fall in electricity use from 1.2 GWh to 1.05 GWh as evidence of an efficiency improvement. The raw reduction was 12.5%, but the customers' production had also changed. The totals alone could not establish the operating gain I had implied. We funded a ₹36 lakh measurement review and withdrew the stronger interpretation rather than make an attractive percentage carry more meaning than its conditions supported.

I began as a plant-service engineer in July 1997, moved into regional service management and joined Vezquri in September 2011. I became COO in January 2023. Today our five operating sites serve eighteen industrial clients, with 118 employees and ₹92 crore FY 26 service fees. Eighty-four operating colleagues work through four heads within ₹21 crore FY 2026–27 non-electricity expense. Electricity purchases and capital require separate approval. CEO Imran Dazvemi leads the enterprise, while engineering head Sonal Qorzethi and qualified owners retain technical methods and acceptance. I have no statutory directorship or personal shareholding.

My cases concern the differences between a useful operating observation and the promise someone might infer from it. We examined service complaints across the supplier and customer interface, narrowed a heat-recovery proposal when the actual demand was seasonal, and tested the duty-contact arrangements behind an out-of-hours response. Each decision retained its cost and incomplete findings. A contact acknowledgement was not a field attendance, a recoverable heat source was not a year-round customer, and a lower electricity total was not automatically an efficiency result. My responsibility was to make those distinctions actionable without taking over specialist technical judgement.

The raw reduction did not settle the efficiency claim

Electricity use fell by 0.15 GWh from 1.2 GWh to 1.05 GWh across periods with changed customer production. A ₹36 lakh review sought a suitable comparison; no causal saving was claimed from the totals alone.

A service complaint could cross the contractual interface

Thirty-six reviewed complaints separated fourteen supplier-side findings, twelve client-side findings and ten unresolved cases. The ₹48 lakh joint review retained the unresolved group instead of assigning it convenient blame.

An acknowledgement was only one part of the response

The first twenty-six contact drills produced twenty-two acknowledgements and four failures. After a ₹22 lakh process review, a further twenty-six produced twenty-four acknowledgements and two unresolved failures, not proof of field arrival.

Current focus

Making industrial-service commitments reflect the operating conditions, customer dependencies and evidence actually available.
